⚙ Engineering emotions for better citizen participation? We learned from our recent webinar on “how to exploit emotions for better citizen deliberations” that, properly channeled, emotions can: 1️⃣ Empower citizens to claim rights and improve public policies of which they are the direct beneficiaries 2️⃣ Help citizens perform their civic duties better 3️⃣ Reconnect citizens to the State, overcome long-term grievances and injustice feeling 4️⃣ Reconcile citizens and the administration, both subject to emotions. → Continue reading the webinar's key takeaways here: https://lnkd.in/eRUEYdFj #emotionalintelligence #collectiveintelligence #citizenparticipation

I'm very excited to facilitate this important Folio Conversation with Emma Fletcher (CoCeo, democracyco). Why so excited? Folio Conversations bring diverse citizens together — from different sectors, disciplines, occupations and backgrounds — to explore the big issues of our times in an intimate and trusted setting. It's a unique space to listen, contribute, and challenge ourselves and each other as citizens to meaningfully engage with issues of common concern. Online Folio Conversations are not like your normal webinar or panel discussion. We prioritise interactive dialogue between our Conversation Leader and all attendees, and follow with the Chatham House Rule to promote open, honest and inclusive dialogue. These small group conversations provide unparalleled access to incredible thinkers and doers like Emma, who is pushing the envelope of deliberative democracy and citizen engagement. Seats are limited to ensure that everyone can participate. You can register your seat on our website: https://lnkd.in/g8dDWh8f. Tickets are free for Folio members | $20 for guests. If you're interested in connecting with diverse citizens and joining more conversations this year, I recommend considering Folio membership. It's great value and helps shape the future direction of this unique community. #conversationsthatmatter #dialogue #democracy #participation #citizens

I applaud this addition to the efforts towards the just world we seek. Sudhanshu and colleagues at HAI, well done for penning this down. In addition to these critical points, I would add that i)dialogue is TWO-WAY, not one person speak and the other listens. I believe we are beyond speaking and would like to see the “NOW WHAT” and therefore I add, ii) let every engagement we have end tangible ways forward, while creating a framework for us to hold each other accountable-dynamic accountability as colleagues Global Standard for CSO Accountability has been advocating for over the last few decades is more critical now, that we are finally ready to change; and lastly (for now) iii) those still left behind trying to “figure things out”, keep speaking with us-not just about what is right philosophically, we can let you know increasingly who is and where we are seeing tangible positive ways forward-do not only rely on “expert” advise and data, speak to us, and get the stories of change directly from the local and national actors who are at the epicenter of these debates; and because for most of us in the global majority-actions speak louder than words, we need to see actions, and you should also learn to interpret our actions along with our words to be able to tell the authenticity and the effects of your actions. Well done colleagues!
Championing Authentic Change in Locally-Led Development! In recent years, there's been a growing focus on locally-led development (LLD), leading to numerous events. However, operationalising LLD, localisation, and community-led development often lack true representation from local organisations. Many of these events fail to include our voices. This year, there has been significant dissatisfaction with the limited inclusion of local perspectives in key events and forums on locally-led development. In September and October 2023, two events in Copenhagen provided a platform to discuss reshaping how LLD and localisation events are organised. This letter thus emerged from conversations among local actors at these events. Facilitated by The Movement for Community-led Development, CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation, and Peace Direct, this letter stands as a testament to the power of collaboration. It's not the product of a single entity but a harmonized effort, incorporating input from diverse voices. This collective endeavour addresses shared concerns about the inclusivity of events dedicated to LLD. Key Points from the Letter: - Lack of Representation: The letter acknowledges dissatisfaction with the limited inclusion of local perspectives, emphasizing the vital need for genuine representation from local organizations. - Collaborative Effort: Resulting from conversations at the Copenhagen events, the letter has been reviewed by around 30 Majority World networks and organizations. It mirrors a collective commitment to positive change. - No Logos, No Ownership: In the spirit of inclusivity, the letter is a shared resource without logos or claims of ownership. Be a catalyst for change! Share this letter within your networks and on your platforms to amplify the call for more inclusive LLD events. Engage Funders and Partners: Take this letter to the desks of funders, foundations, and partners. Urge them to prioritise authentic local representation in their support for development initiatives. Let's work together to create a more inclusive and impactful approach to locally-led development, where every voice is heard and every community is empowered. #LocallyLedDevelopment #InclusiveChange #communityempowerment #globalimpact #localisation https://lnkd.in/dTeWhtp4 Sudhanshu Shekhar Singh Nahith Beegam Tarini Ross rajeev jha
