If you could imagine the perfect utility customer, what would they look like? 1. High levels of consumption = increases system utilization 2. Highly price elastic, seeking the lowest price available = incentivizes building more cheap power (e.g., renewables) 3. Can be located anywhere = reduces grid congestion A common misconception is that because #bitcoinmining consumes a lot of energy, it must be bad. The reality is such a one-dimensional view is insufficient to make that claim. When the power is consumed and from where also matters. The market structure of bitcoin allows it to fill in the gaps of cheap renewable power avoiding curtailment of unused energy and stopping mining completely when the prices are too high and supply is needed elsewhere.
