With Covenant House board member Ariana DeBose hosting the Tonys tonight, we thought it'd be the perfect time to tell you about this summer's Sleep Out: Stage & Screen! Our supporters from the Broadway, film, and television industries will give up their beds on August 18th, sleeping outside to raise funds and awareness. Their uncomfortable night turns into safe shelter for youth facing homelessness. If you want to support your favorite actor's campaign, or if you're an industry professional and want to participate, you can get involved at https://lnkd.in/eb-9V_vp

Do you have a role to play in spreading the message that domestic and family violence (DFV) is not acceptable in our community? May is DFV Prevention Month and we’re looking for 50 businesses to lead by example. (But we need you to sign up now, so we hit our target in May!😂) We need your help, to: • raise community awareness of DFV and its impacts; • promote a clear message that domestic and family violence is not tolerated in our communities; and • raise money for The Haven to house and support over 44 women and 113 children per year. You can make an impact. Sign up now as a fundraiser and we’ll be in contact to discuss what you can do in the month of May to help. Myself, Charlie McWha James Conroy Lewis Woods and Rebecca Humphreys are fund raising for CEO Sleepout. Since 2013 CEO Sleepout has raised £3.8 million to tackle homelessness in cities across the UK, changing countless lives. On October 23rd we will be sleeping overnight in Old Trafford stadium to raise funds. So why are we doing this? Forecasts show core homelessness in 2024 rising one fifth higher than 2020 levels. Sadly, Manchester has worst rate of homelessness in the North West, with the latest data suggesting 1 in 74 Mancunians are homeless! The Top three causes of homeless in Manchester (pre-Covid): Section 21 eviction, Friend/family eviction and Domestic Abuse. People sleeping on the street are almost 17 times more likely to have been victims of violence. More than one in three people sleeping rough have been deliberately hit or kicked or experienced some other form of violence whilst homeless. Access to healthcare is only possible when someone is registered with a GP. People often experience feelings of isolation, increasing their chances of taking drugs or experiencing mental health problems Homeless people are over nine times more likely to take their own life than the general population. We are stronger when we walk together, When a woman leaves a violent partner, she loses so much more than a roof over her head - she risks her safety, faces relocation and loses access to financial stability, community, and support systems. With domestic violence as the leading cause of homelessness for women, many are forced to choose between staying with a violent partner and having a place to stay. Support Walk for WAGEC Women's & Girls' Emergency Centre (WAGEC) so that women and their children can walk away from violence. With the rising cost of living and housing crisis, WAGEC's services are more in-demand than ever and needing your help to raise $300,000 that will fund vital services that will support women and children in crisis, and stop violence before it starts. A donation of $250 could provide three days of crisis accomodation for a woman and her children who have just escaped violence. Every dollar helps to build a safer future for women and children in our community. We're stronger when we walk together. Donate here: https://lnkd.in/gT7rErZ8

Tomorrow is World Day Against Trafficking! This year's theme is focused on justice - which doesn't just mean arrests, but also successful prosecutions. Success on behalf of the victim and their best interests (which sometimes means not testifying or participating in the justice pricess) -- AND success for society, which means finding alternate means to stopping traffickers by building strong cases for trial. Collective Liberty hosts advanced, in-depth trainings across the nation to equip US investigators and prosecutors with the tools they need to build cases without ever having a cooperative victim. It is on us to provide justice, survivors should not be required to do it for us. Follow us to learn more about our impact, how we're shifting systems to increase accountability for human traffickers while liberating survivors from added trauma from the criminal justice system. Together we can create the world we want to live in! Donate:m now to keep this impact going: https://lnkd.in/dnwkqVRp #humanrights #humantrafficking #sextrafficking #labortrafficking #socialgood #nonprofit #donate #socialjustice #justice #changemakers #makeadifference #endhumantrafficking
