In December 2023, research conducted by Shelter revealed an alarming 14% increase, equivalent to 38,100 individuals, in the number of people experiencing homelessness compared to the previous year. Among them were over 309,000 individuals, including nearly 140,000 children, who lacked stable housing. These figures are deeply concerning, highlighting the urgent need for action. Each of us can make a difference by a. raising awareness and b. contributing via donations. Whether you choose to share this information, donate, or both, your efforts will help provide crucial support to those who, for various reasons, lack the fundamental necessities required to participate fully in our society. Homelessness is a persistent issue that demands our attention and collective action. It's very clear that this problem won't disappear overnight. Therefore, it's vital for each of us to recognise our social responsibility and contribute, no matter how small that effort may seem. Rough sleeping is the most visible and dangerous form of homelessness. Evidence shows that people sleeping on the street are almost 17 times more likely to be victims of violence. Our mission is to put an end to rough sleeping and support those experiencing homelessness into housing and independence. The threat to our funding is still uncertain, if we were to lose funding this would result in the closure of The Falcon Centre, our 30 bed hostel in Loughborough which prevents rough sleeping and provides the community with housing, community and recovery support through the drop in programme. If you can show us support in these uncertain times and help us sustain our specialised face to face services through, sharing, donating, or fundraising, please reach out.. Today, HomeSpace is launching our second annual #AdoptADoor campaign-focused on raising funds that will help us welcome more families in need of safe and affordable homes. For many Calgarians, the holiday season is a time of joy, togetherness, and celebration. For others, its a time of stress, especially for those who are struggling to find affordable housing during the cold winter months. The rising cost of living means shelters are facing unprecedented demand, the need for more affordable housing continues to grow, and an increasing number of Calgarians are teetering on the edge of experiencing homelessness. The time to show up for our neighbours is now. This holiday season, consider giving the gift of Home through a donation to Adopt-a-Door with HomeSpace. Every donation made to Adopt-A-Door goes directly to purchasing, renovating, and securing accessible affordable housing units for families, seniors, youth, and individuals living in extreme housing need. By donating to Adopt-A-Door, you can make a tangible impact in the housing crisis by supporting HomeSpace's innovative housing solutions. Did you know the Community Organised Resource Exchange connects businesses that have surplus, with the community sector? Don Hancey owns a commercial kitchen in Osborne Park, and he recently provided his kitchen to Homelessness We Care who used the space to cook their weekly meal service for their homelessness community. The exchange was a win-win for both parties, as The Kitchen was sharing an unused resource, and Homelessness We Care were able to benefit from that resource, for the purpose of preparing a meal for rough sleepers. Do you know a business that has surplus resources, time, or logistics to donate, that could be of benefit to a charity or NFP? Visit corexchange.org.au and create an account today. #communitysector #sharingeconomy #sharingresources #circulareconomyaustralia #sustainablecommunities #communitysector

https://lnkd.in/eDzdP6ay Even if you incapable of giving, please share. We're running out of resources quicker than we can replenish them. Today is #GivingTuesday. We here at The Kivu Project face an uphill battle. War continues to rage in the eastern DRC. Our immediate needs are urgent - food and medicine are running perilously low in our refugee camp, funds for school fees are dwindling, and there are the constant maintenance needs of our buildings. We come to you asking for urgent help. By making a $10 recurring monthly donation, you are helping to send two children to school for a month. If you’re feeling generous, a recurring monthly $25 donation will help to to provide over 100lbs of food. We don’t need a lot - just consistent, steady help that will give us solid footing to address our pressing needs. Can we count on you? Please follow the link above to show your support and make sure to make your donation a recurring one. https://lnkd.in/eDzdP6ay

NEW: Rising unaffordability is contributing to the donor drop in Canada. But new data suggests there's another key culprit: declining social connectedness. In 2023, 84% of people with 7-10 close friends reported making a donation on CanadaHelps' giving platform. The same was true for just 53% of people with 0 or 1 close friend. What does this mean for non-profits and charities? For more data and experts' ideas, give it a gander. #donations #philanthropy #isolation
