Innopack Pharma Confex, Mumbai 2024: Reflections on Design Considerations in Pharma Packaging It was an honor to participate in the recent InnoPack Pharma Confex in Mumbai on June 14th, 2024, as a panelist on the discussion "Design Considerations That Influences Pharma Packaging Decisions." I'd like to express my sincere gratitude to the organizers for providing this valuable platform for industry dialogue. A special thanks to our esteemed moderator, Mr. Dinesh Shukla, Vice President - Commercial at Ajanta Pharma Ltd, for guiding the discussion with such expertise. His insightful questions allowed for a comprehensive exploration of the complex design considerations that shape pharmaceutical packaging decisions. I was also fortunate to share the stage with fellow panelists - Mr. Shivaji Chakraborty, Head of Packaging Development at FRESENIUS KABI ONCOLOGY PLC - Mr. Chandi Prasad Ravipati, Head Packaging Development at AUROBINDO PHARMA LTD - Mr. Prabir Das, Former Head of Packaging Technical Services, OSD (India) at Mylan (Viatris) The combined experience on the panel offered a rich perspective on the multifaceted nature of design considerations in pharma packaging. We discussed the latest regulations and best practices for ensuring product integrity, child resistance, and adherence to stringent quality standards. 2. Material Selection: The choice of materials significantly impacts everything from shelf life to sustainability. We explored innovative, eco-friendly materials while emphasizing the importance of compatibility with the product and sterilization processes. 3. Inclusivity: We acknowledged the importance of designing for the end-user. This includes clear labeling, intuitive opening mechanisms, and accessibility features, particularly for elderly or visually impaired patients. 4. We discussed how to create a design that reflects the brand's values and resonates with target audiences while maintaining a professional and trustworthy image.
