11 November - Remembrance Day « We test this argument using new archival and geospatial data at the commune (third administrative) level from French Algeria in the early twentieth century. Following its conquest in 1830, Algeria became the largest and most important part of the French Empire, and contributed many soldiers to the French military in World Wars I and II. An estimated 172,000 Algerians fought in World War I,Footnote 9 the first mobilization to introduce mass conscription of Muslim subjects. Algerian units played a key role in blunting the initial German offensive in August 1914 and in the long years of trench combat that followed. By the end of the conflict, nearly 43,000 Algerian-born soldiers made the ultimate sacrifice for France. In World War II, the quick fall of the French military to the Nazis in 1940 meant that mobilization was more limited than during World War I. Nonetheless, after the Allied invasion of North Africa in 1942, more than 134,000 Algerian-born soldiers were mobilized,Footnote 10 and an estimated 18,000 were killed liberating Europe.»

Daily A Noble Thought - April 04 One World Government World peace cannot be brought by Political leaders, Religious leaders or Economists. Because, even though they may have high motive in their respective area, but to some extent they are bound by beneficial authority and money provided by the group members. Hence, an organization with the holistic spiritual view only can bring and guide entire humanity in spiritual field. The plan given by me is very simple. It is normal & easy to understand and implement too. Should delegate enough powers to United Nations, all nations should come together to accept responsibility to protect all the political borders in the world together. Gist of our scheme is to have a plan and action for sorting out all the border issues through the special court to be established by United Nations, so that all nations accept this without any protest. If protection of all political borders are managed by United Nations, no nation would require any individual military force. Current military expenditure and service of defense personnel, can be deployed by United Nations, to uplift the backward nations and backward people. If the expenditure and power of military forces are deployed for people welfare, within 15 years time period, every nation in the world can live with economic equality, affectionate mind and peaceful life. Across the world this scheme can be analyzed village-wise, town-wise, country-wise and resolved to implement without any loss to any segment of society. With this great objective, come forward to serve the world with word, wealth and energy; join (us); cordially invite (you) to enjoy by doing welfare and getting welfare. - Vethathiri Maharishi

🇺🇦 Ukraine seeks equal sacrifice in mobilization overhaul amid personnel gaps 🇺🇦 Facing nearly 400,000 Russian troops, Ukraine is reforming mobilization laws to expand ranks, ease exhausted soldiers, and compel broader societal contribution. After two years with little rest, fatigued frontline troops are calling for fixed conscription terms to enable rotations. Under current laws, mobilization has no defined duration under martial law, creating severe inequity between civilians and deployed forces. "Last year I had 4 vacation days. At 3 am on New Year's day they called me back," says Runa, a servicewoman denied extended leave. While volunteers rushed to enlist initially, now only ~7% of working-age Ukrainians serve. With loopholes allowing many to avoid duty, officials warn that shortages could become critical without reform. Proposed updates would cut exemptions and lower the minimum age from 27 to 25. The existing law grants exclusions to bureaucrats, teachers, infrastructure staff, and fathers of 3 children. Parliament may vote on a revised bill on February 6. With Russian troop levels rising, commanders say expanded ranks are vital for rotations and combat operations. Funds to equip and pay additional soldiers present a limitation. But pursuing inclusive mobilization and defined terms can ease unequal sacrifice while bolstering manpower needs.

I will be voting yes on October 14. When we vote we are voting on whether we think that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people should have a voice on matters that affect them. If we vote "yes", then the function of the body will be developed through the usual legislative process. This is the same as other constitutional matters - for example the constitution says we need an army, navy and airforce. The details are all organised later, through the legislative process. Fast facts: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people continue to be 10 times more likely to be incarcerated than non-Indigenous Australians, their life expectancy is up to 8.6 years less, and they generally experience lower standards of housing, employment, education and health, despite prior attempts to address these issues. Something has to change. A "yes" vote means that the constitution will provide recognition and protection for the First Nations advisory body from being abolished. Everything else can evolve legislatively as needs change. Most other countries have this type of consultative committee for their First Nations people and it’s about time we did too. Vote yes 🙌🏼

Here is your daily dose of #UKpolitics, as PM Starmer is set to meet with U.S. President Joe Biden as a part of the ongoing #NATO summit in Washington D.C.. 🛡 Prime Minister Keir Starmer has said his commitment to increasing U.K. defence spending to 2.5% of GDP is "cast iron", though he has not shared a timeline for when or how the Labour government will hit that target. 🌐 PM Starmer held his first in-person meeting with a foreign leader this morning, speaking with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Washington. The meeting takes place amid speculation that the U.K. and EU will create a new security pact, with Starmer set to host the European Political Community next week. 🏛 Starmer, who is lowering the retirement age in the House of Lords to 80, clarified to the press that this move does not reflect on whether Joe Biden should be President or not, but is rather solely about reducing the membership of the House of Lords. There are over 800 members of that chamber at present. 👊 Meanwhile, the Tories have started infighting already. Leadership hopeful and former home secretary Suella Braverman has already started blasting her shadow cabinet colleagues, as former home secretary James Cleverly has called publicly for the party to unify and "get our act together". This comes as a recent YouGov poll shows nearly half of Conservative Party members want the party to merge with Reform UK. #UK #politics #policy #Conservative #defence #NATOsummit #cdnpoli #update https://lnkd.in/gNnba9D2

🕊️ Keith Best: "We need to be inclusive of states even if we dislike their systems and the way in which they operate. We may be wary of the control of China by the Chinese Communist Party and its apparatchiks, we may condemn the treatment of the Uyghur which many regard as genocide but we still need to engage with the Chinese if we are to have any influence." #worldpeace #worldfederalist #worldjustice Read more: https://lnkd.in/g5hDm48g

a review. please remember. one party government is always going to be an autocracy ruled by self absorbed whim. communism is a one party dictatorship that robs & dupes the citizens. democracy is a two party government that allows for simple equally counting vote. simple majority rule for (one) united body and a representation (a congress) that runs on helpful ideas & does great things for humanity). the promise of a democracy is that it guarantees to put the people's welfare health & interests far above their own. to make for a more perfect union. how do we measure up? https://lnkd.in/gQS48k4S
