The new Marks and Spencer TV advert stood out to me last night. Firstly, I just love sourdough, so they immediately had my attention. Then ambassador chef Mark Moriarty appeared, significantly enhancing the ad's credibility and drawing me in even further. With my marketing hat on, I found the advert to be perfectly on brand. The simplicity of the message, focusing on just one product out of thousands, is brilliant. With the recent wave of global boycotts, Pakistanis are now turning to local alternatives for various products, including cold drinks. While this shift to support local businesses is a good sign, there’s a curious trend in the beverage aisles. Many local brands are mimicking international ones, not just in taste but in look and feel too. It's like a game of ‘copycat’ where Pakistani beverage companies seem to copy the branding of popular international drinks. This imitation raises an interesting question: if local companies are copying international brands' appearances and names, why do they still claim to promote local pride?
