Bangladesh faces challenges attracting multinational companies (MNCs) due to poor supply chain management, hindering investment. In a webinar organized by the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), speakers highlighted supply chain issues affecting compliance across agricultural goods' production to marketing. Foodpanda Bangladesh's MD cited the lack of an effective supply chain as a reason MNCs prefer investing in other countries. The closure of 5,000 restaurants during the pandemic underscored supply chain problems. Suggestions included withdrawing import duty on food-grade packaging materials and enhancing manpower efficiency. Bengal Meat's CEO stressed the need for policy support, emphasizing compliance for food exports and domestic supply. Agriculture Minister Razzaque urged big companies to aid in agricultural product marketing, noting existing issues in the supply system. Recommendations encompassed investment in agricultural processing, addressing disrupted supply chains, and leveraging modern technologies for improved management. The Food Secretary mentioned the ongoing Modern Food Facility project setting up labs in the country's divisions, due to finish in December. D V Swamy, Chairman of India’s Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA), has announced that the UAE has now become India's ninth-largest market for seafood exports. During the financial year 2023-2024, India achieved record-high seafood exports in terms of volume. In the fiscal year 2023-24, India exported 1.78 million metric tonnes of seafood valued at $7.38B. Did you know that India shipped more than 1.7 MMT of seafood worth USD 8.09 Billion in FY 22-23. This is the highest exports in terms of both volume and value. #FrozenShrimp is the most significant seafood exported out of India with almost 41% by volume and 67% by value. While US exports have declined in recent years, it still continues to be the largest importing country for India (almost 2600 $MIO) followed by China, Europe , South East Asia, Japan and finally Middle East in descending order.
