🌟 Where does creativity stop?
I have often been asked if I love my job. As a freelance videographer, one might assume it's an easy question to answer. You work in diverse environments, meet many different people, and revel in boundless creativity. But is it truly so? Lately, I've struggled with the complex realm of creativity.
My journey began at 12 when I received my first video camera. I'd record funny videos with friends, later crafting them into "gems" with Windows Movie Maker. I'd stroll through the city, letting my mind create what I'd call "experimental" short movies. I even captured my mom once combating an ant invasion, the perfect opportunity for my first (very) modest "horror short film".
In 2014, I started working as a video producer, and in 2018, I became a freelance videographer. Since this became my job, maintaining it as a side hobby became a complex challenge. I even stopped bringing my camera on trips since the only thing I want to do then is to disconnect entirely.
In the midst of my craft, I often catch myself overanalyzing shots, framing, lighting, and prioritizing client expectations over personal satisfaction. The line between work and pleasure blurs, leaving me to consider where the pure joy of creating once resided.
Don't get me wrong; I love what I do. Creating visually stunning narratives is a passion that runs deep within me. However, there's a longing for the days when I could pick up my camera without the weight of deadlines and client expectations. The challenge lies in rediscovering the unbridled creativity that fueled my early projects.
Perhaps it's time to redefine the balance between work and play, to rediscover the essence of why I fell in love with storytelling through a lens. As I navigate this journey, I invite you to join me, to witness the evolution of a videographer rediscovering the art of creating not just for work but for the sheer joy of it. Let's embark on a new chapter of storytelling, where creativity knows no bounds, and the love for the craft remains at the forefront.
