🇬🇧 English Challenge #2 My daughter Antonella is going to close her first kindergarden experience: we call it "asilo nido" from 0 to 3 years. During this experience, she played with english and now she asks me often to see the cartoon "Curious Geroge" in english. She understands what happens in his adventures. Sometimes, she organizes the italian statements similar to english ones. She says "io piace George" as "I like George" instead of "Mi piace George". She put the adjective before the name: "bello Geroge". Maybe it's my imagination, but I'm fascinated from her capacity to adapt, to explore. Simply wow. ------------- I've decided to pick up a challenge with myself with english language. 'll try to write my posts without search on dictionary before. Correct me! Help me to improve. I'm not afraid about my errors. Nobody has to be. Thank you. #english #improvement

Accomplished professional with extensive experience in content writing, change management, program development, educational project management, and business development.
I speak to approximately 3-4 recruiters per week, most of whom are born in countries where English is not their mother tongue. Although I'm happy to be contacted - I have one suggestion to make life easier for both of us. SLOW DOWN I grew up listening to accents (my father came to Canada from Europe), my parent's friends came from overseas, as did many of my friends, I taught ESL in Canada and Korea – so I am used to accents. But over the phone with static and distance (speaker phone) and with a heavy accent, it’s extremely difficult to understand. The more slowly you speak, the easier you will be to understand and the less you will have to repeat yourself. Thus, there is less frustration for you and for me, the listener. When I worked at Keyano College in Fort McMurray, we offered accent reduction/pronunciation classes for niche groups such as engineering. Classes made a tremendous difference for the participants, who frequently told us that after classes, they discovered people could understand them the first time, and they didn't have to keep repeating. As a program manager who hired subject matter experts to teach - after accent reduction classes, there were far fewer student complaints, and the frustration levels from both instructors and students were almost nil. As a suggestion - consider accent reduction classes. Or, a free way to practice Canadian pronunciation is to watch Canadian/American movies, pause and listen to and repeat the words and the rhythm of the sentences the way the actors do. My Vietnamese hairdresser learned how to speak AMAZING English by doing this. Her accent is flawless, and she has a command of idioms, sentence structure, and speech rhythm, despite only learning English three years ago.

I help language teachers enjoy their work | Making teacher wellbeing a priority | Well-being coach | Teacher Trainer | CELTA tutor at Art of ELT
⁉️ Why is being a language teacher so hard? ⁉️ 🤔 Here are some of my ideas: - unreasanable expectations - crazy workload - emotional labor - admin - low pay - insecurity (for those employed by language schools and or working online) - low social status What would you add to the list? What bugs you about the job we love? #languageteachers #ELT #teacherwellbeing #ArtofELT

🐻"What we’re trying to do is take language difficulties away from being a specialist problem, where you have to get a speech and language therapist into the school to work with a child intensively. That is great, but the resources don’t really exist to do that. So we’re trying to make language work an integral part of mainstream education, with a particular emphasis on targeting the children who are struggling with language and who will benefit most from getting the help."
