Just R - Proactive NHS Recruitment. Future proofing the NHS workforce, reducing temp agency spend & improving retention. Proud to be a #FemaleFounder #10KSB Alumni
Over the last few weeks we have been hearing of Trusts placing freezes on permanent recruitment to ‘save money’ I struggle to understand how this can ever make sense..? A vacancy is a vacancy, isn’t it? Last year, a single #NHS Trust spent in excess of £36 million on temporary staff to fill vacancies. Just 1% of that agency spend could transform the recruitment outlook for the organisation for the next 3 years, transforming teams and future proofing the workforce. Moving from a place of reactive to proactive recruitment empowers teams to secure the people they need, rather than having to bolster with those willing to turn up for a shift for enhanced pay in firefighting mode. Just R empowers healthcare organisations with cost effective, sustainable, long term solutions to build a thriving, permanent workforce. An alarming 82% of health professional occupations are experiencing a skills shortage, according to a new report from Jobs & Skills Australia (JSA). That compares to 36% across the wider job market. The reason healthcare organisations are struggling to find staff is largely due to the “high levels of skills, qualifications and experience” required for those positions. “This is evidenced by employer survey data indicating a lack of specific skills or experience being among the most common reasons applicants were found unsuitable,” according to JSA. Unfortunately, this problem may worsen, because the healthcare and social assistance industry is projected to make the largest contribution to employment growth over the next 10 years. During that period, the share of Australia’s workforce who work in this industry is forecast to grow from 15.2% to 16.7%. This #TransformationTuesday, I'm delving into an issue close to my heart: the enduring staffing crisis in the UK's health and social care sectors. Having joined the NHS as a student nurse in 2001 and now deeply involved in workforce development, I've witnessed the cyclical nature of this challenge. International Recruitment - A Stopgap Solution: Over the years, international recruitment has been a go-to strategy for filling staffing gaps. While it addresses immediate needs, questions linger about its sustainability and ethical implications. Political Instability and Policy Consistency: With 4 Prime Ministers and 7 Health Secretaries in the past six years, we've seen a whirlwind of policy changes, each resetting the clock on long-term workforce planning. This lack of continuity presents a significant barrier to developing enduring solutions. So, What's the Strategic Way Forward? 1. Investment in Education & Training: Building a robust pipeline of healthcare professionals starts here in our communities. 2. Focus on Workforce Retention: A supportive and rewarding work environment is vital to keeping our skilled professionals. 3. Technological Innovation: Leveraging technology can revolutionise care delivery, enhancing efficiency and workforce satisfaction. 🌐 The Immigration Debate: It's crucial to have a nuanced dialogue on the role of international talent, balancing immigration concerns with the need for skilled professionals in our sectors. As someone passionate about technology strategy and compliance in healthcare, I firmly believe in evidence-based policymaking and stable leadership to chart a course towards sustainable solutions in health and social care. I invite your insights: How can we collaboratively forge a resilient health and social care system capable of thriving in the face of ongoing challenges? Let's discuss below. #HealthcareLeadership #NHS #WorkforceDevelopment #SocialCare Cr: Tom Croft et al.
