I've made bookings, changes and add-ons from my browser at no additional costs. McKinsey & Company states, 'the average customer looking to make a single reservation for accommodations (like a hotel room) online switched nearly six times between websites and mobile channels. If these customers encounter inconsistent information or can’t get what they need, they may lose interest in a brand’s products or services.' What do you think about The Elephant in the Cabin? 🤔 🐘 "Air travellers are increasingly younger and technically literate so a fast uptake of digitalised buy-on-board services should be a reasonable expectation. "The Market for Onboard Ancillary Revenues and Payment Solutions — 2023", predicts that revenue generated via inflight entertainment and connectivity systems (IFEC) will account for 95% of all onboard purchases by 2031 — up from 15% percent in 2022. The remaining 5% will come from manual trolley services. Valour also projects that IFEC-driven ancillary revenues are poised to reach US$29bn by 2031. In contrast, at the end of 2021, at the height of the pandemic, onboard airline ancillary revenues were estimated to be US$4.4bn." Overcrowded lounges resulted in even high-status #passengers being turned away, while privileges associated with loyalty tiers were reduced or removed entirely. This trend towards exclusivity, favoring elite customers and exclusive experiences, looks set to persist. Will the new players in the industry like Capital One be the next "big thing" for lounge access? They have opened three impressive lounges in DFW, DEN, and IAD, offering lavish amenities like showers, challenging the traditional airline loyalty programs. They aimed to capitalize on passengers' dissatisfaction with restricted access and diminishing benefits in airline lounges, leveraging their Venture X card's lounge access as an enticing alternative to co-branded airline credit cards. As these independent lounges expand, they pose a compelling choice for #travelers weighing their options between airline-specific perks and more versatile offerings from non-airline affiliated cards. Looking ahead to 2024, the expansion of lounge systems by companies like Capital One might disrupt the loyalty space, potentially overshadowing airlines' attempts to limit access and redefine the landscape.
