* PLASTIC BAG USE DOWN 98% SINCE CHARGES BEGAN IN 2015 * - More than 7 billion plastic bags have been prevented from litter or landfill due to the single-use carrier bag charge. - The 5p charge was introduced in supermarkets in 2015 and increased to 10p in 2021, when it was extended to all businesses. - The average person in England now buys two single-use carrier bags a year compared with around 140 in 2014, when 7.6 billion were used. - The number of single-use carrier bags reported as sold by main retailers was 133 million in 2022-23, down from 197 million in 2021-22, representing a reduction of 33%. - Defra said that, from 1 October, bans will cover single-use plastic plates, trays, bowls, cutlery, balloon sticks and some polystyrene cups and food containers. - The Government’s flagship waste and resources sector reforms appear to have been temporarily shelved, with recent confirmation that extended producer responsibility and consistent collections would not be implemented until October 2025 at the earliest. #plasticrecycling #wastemanagement #recyclingindustry

Did you know about the upcoming mandatory cup takeback rule by the Government in 2025? Businesses with ten or more full-time employees selling drinks in fibre-based cups will need visible recycling bins on-site. Here's what it entails: This move aims to shift the responsibility for managing disposable cups from consumers to producers. 1) Producers will need to play a more active role in managing the cups they put into the market. Including setting up collection systems and ensuring cups are recycled ♻️ 2) Producers will need to meet targets set by the government for collection and recycling of disposable cups. 🥤 3) The report emphasises the need for consumer education to raise awareness about the importance of reducing single-use plastic consumption. At Cawleys we are here to assist you with navigating these changes. Get in touch today to start your journey with us : https://lnkd.in/ev7tMfhk #DisposableCups #Sustainability #WasteManagement

At GreenPerks, our team is always looking for innovative ways to refill and reduce plastic waste. Today, let's join hands to embrace the refill revolution. Here are a few easy yet powerful steps we can all take to make refilling a part of our daily lives: 1. Bring Your Own Bottle. Carry a reusable water bottle and refill it throughout the day instead of buying single-use plastic bottles. 2. Refill Household Products. Use refill stations for household products like detergents, shampoos, and cleaning supplies. Many stores now offer bulk refills to cut down on packaging waste. 3. Use Refillable Coffee Cups: Bring a reusable coffee cup to your favorite café and ask them to fill it instead of using disposable cups. 4. Refill Personal Care Items: Switch to refillable containers for personal care products like lotions and soaps. Look for brands that offer refill options. 5. Promote and Support Refill Stations: Advocate for more refill stations in your community and support businesses that offer refill options. Let's make every day a refill day. Together, we can create a greener, cleaner future. 💚 #WorldRefillDay #Sustainability #GreenPerks #ReducePlastic #EcoFriendlyLiving #ZeroWaste
