Ready to Capture Attention? Start with a Surprising Question. Question headlines often get a bad rap and for good reason, sometimes. We've all seen those question headlines that miss the mark. They’re either too obvious (“Do you like breathing?”) or just plain boring (“Do you wish your cheap shoes didn’t fall apart?”). But the best ones? They’re the questions that catch you off guard and make you think. They grab your attention and don’t let go. Take this old ad, for example, which nailed it with an unexpected question. It's all about making the simple question a powerful tool again. It’s all about making people stop, think, and want to know more. Ready T(S)ell Your Story. Do you know who the audience for your document is? That is, do you know who's going to read your document? It can be easy to write for the people reviewing or approving your document. But ultimately, they're not who it needs to work for. Getting clear on who your document is for makes it much easier to decide whether specific information needs to be included or not. If your document ships with the product then you're writing for people that are already customers - you don't need to convince them to buy, but you can help them have a good experience with it. But if it's going on the web then you might want to include a little more sales spiel. #audience #technicalwriting
