Professor of Radiation Oncology & In-Charge Cancer Genetics Unit at Tata Memorial Hospital & Advanced Centre for Treatment Research & Education in Cancer (ACTREC), Mumbai
I had the privilege to speak at the #ASTRO23 meeting and share the World's Largest data of >1000 Breast Cancer patients we treated with high quality Regional Nodal RT SCF /-IMC with 5# Ultra-Hypo-Fractionated RT (UHFRT) at the Tata Memorial Hospital & ACTREC. We could confidently use UHFRT as a universal practice in the most challenging pandemic times only because we had standardised & were routinely using mono-isocentric RT since several years & also had pre pandemic experience of 5# UHFRT in 100 cases. Using a variety of modern techniques and clever planning, we could keep radiation dose to very safe limits to the heart and brachial plexus. Patients requiring RT to the Internal Mammary Nodal Chain were not included the Nodal Substudy of the concluded RCT of UHFRT (FAST-Forward) or had very few cases in the ongoing RCT (HYPORT) to inform future practice for IMC RT. Of the 1024 patients we treated with Regional Nodal UHFRT, 200 had IMC RT. Our Session discussant Dr Jean Wright, MD brought out some pertinent points after my talk #UHFRT is here to stay and should be the backbone of future adjuvant breast RT research Watch out for our registry updates and more prospective comparative data

Please consider filling out this survey and helping to provide data on getting the balance right between your risk of skin cancer vs your requirements for vitamin D (a 'hot' topic in our Southern States in Australia)
Back in 2021, The University of Queensland & QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute's Australian Skin and Skin Cancer Research Centre (ASSC) hosted a Sun Exposure Summit, with invited experts and representation from academic, clinical, policy, and patient stakeholder organisations. The group considered advice about balancing the risks and benefits of sun exposure for Australian adults and developed a revised consensus Position Statement, released in late 2023. Already in 2024, this work has featured in the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Public Health led by Rachel Neale , gained popular traction via The Conversation Australia NZ – and has now grown into the Sun Balance Project: https://lnkd.in/gMPB65wU

🫁 Lung organoids sprouted, in the last years, as a promising alternative model in pulmonary research. In this review, the authors delve into the latest knowledge on mechanobiology of lung organoids, its future challenges and limitations. I particularly liked the overview on the scaffolds used for this research! Find here the main advantages and disadvantages of lung organoids vs ALI (air-liquid interface) transwells 👉 Transwell ALI Model 📍 Gold-standard technique 📍 Mimics in vivo epithelial differentiation 📍 TEER (transepithelial electric resistance) ✂️ Lack of complexity ✂️ 2D 👉 Lung Organoids Model 📍 3D 📍 (direct) co-culture ✂️ Technically challenging ✂️ Heterogenous cultures #pulmonaryresearch #ALI #transwell #organoids #mechanobiology
New article highlighted by World Organoid Research Day 2024. New Review Article: Leveraging mechanobiology and biophysical cues in lung organoids for studying lung development and disease.
