Beware of the most dangerous mentality in recruitment - trying to get someone to reduce their salary expectations to save a few quid. It may seem like a good idea to cut costs, but it often goes south in the long run. Candidates will accept the lower offer for a week, two, or maybe even a quarter, but they'll eventually leave when a company that meets their expectations comes along. As we approach Christmas, fight the urge to under-offer when finalizing your recruitment processes. You might be hiring for the same role in January when the candidate gets some perspective. Recruiters, it's time for some real talk.... To all the companies that do not post salary ranges and beat around the bush when a candidate asks - WHY are you doing that to yourself? 🤔 I can't stress enough how transparency benefits everyone involved. Why find out after hours of conversations that someone is out of budget and you can't move forward with them? Why wouldn't you want to understand your candidates compensation expectations and genuinely want to help them reach their goals? 🤯 I know I'm in this business because I want to help people! OFFERING over and above doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a great offer! There are so many issues here to unpack… For example: ☝️The impression the recruiter has before joining the business (superiority complex before they’ve walked in the door) ☝️Higher thresholds, so months and quarters to go before they are in commission territory ☝️The precedence it sets in the office and wider business (to either negotiate up their salary or think the culture is all about throwing as much money at something till it sticks) ☝️The internal structures for promotions is messed up ☝️What if the recruiter turns out to be not as good as you thought - that’s a waste of money ☝️Said recruiter looses their job but now expects that they can expect far more than they are worth (and then that becomes a issue for us rec2recs to consult them down on salaries) Offer what is fair and reasonable - let the opportunity speak for itself!
