Consulate General of the Netherlands in Lagos’ Post

We are delighted to announce the launch of Eco-Learn Nigeria, a youth-led climate education project facilitated by the 🇳🇱 Consulate General in Lagos that aims to empower Lagos' public school teachers with the necessary knowledge and tools to effectively educate students on climate change. Leading youth organizations, including the Youth Sustainable Development Network (YSDN), WHATisDESIGN (WID) and the Earthplus Sustainability Network, along with the Dutch Youth Advisory Committee in Lagos, have been pivotal. They have partnered with the Lagos State Public Service Servants Development Centre and the Ministry of Environment to drive this initiative forward. The journey started in 2023, bringing together over twenty youth organizations with a shared vision to promote climate action with education. ECO-LEARN Nigeria is the result of this unique collaboration, emphasizing the important role youth play in championing sustainable action and the crucial role of education in tackling climate challenges. Flash forward to 2024, 40 passionate and knowledgeable educators have started this journey with us and will spearhead climate education in their classrooms, championing Sustainable Development Goals and fostering a greener future. With all stakeholders united, classrooms across Lagos are set to become launchpads for climate action. Heartfelt thanks to the youth organizations, Lagos State Government, and PSSDC MAGODO for their crucial roles. Eco-Learn Nigeria is a testament to what can be achieved when young people are empowered to lead. Together, we are shaping a sustainable future!
