25th, April, 2024 Prime Minister, Mr. Mark Rutte met with the Nigerian president, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Catshouse in the Hague, Netherlands where the 2 leaders then proceeded to lead their teams in a bilateral dialogue towards enhancing trade opportunities across sectors with specific focus on renewable energy, Agriculture and ICT/Innovation. President Tinubu then proceeded to engage with the Nigeria-Netherlands Business and Investment Forum comprising of Dutch companies and investors with keen interest in Nigeria. Deliberations centred around strengthening the economic relationship between both countries and improving of the ease of doing business in Nigeria. Since Nigeria’s independence, the Netherlands has continuously been one of Nigeria’s biggest trading partners. With pioneering contributions to Nigeria’s energy sector, agriculture and through partnerships and technical assistance over the last 70 years, cooperation in the aviation and marine industries including through designing airports and dams, and large-scale contributions to consumer goods, music, food and beverages. Dutch companies have invested over $1 billion in Nigeria and created over 160,000 jobs. Bilateral trade last year alone amounted to 7 billion Euros. #solvingglobalchallengestogether
Significant collaboration between the Netherlands and Nigeria has been underway for years, particularly in the health sector, thanks to the dedicated efforts of people like Njide Ndili , PharmAccess , Dr. Pamela Ajayi , and the Healthcare Federation of Nigeria, among others. It's encouraging to see the President taking steps to further strengthen bilateral relations with the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
The Dutch Agriculture economy produces 10 times Nigeria total output using a landmass the size of Kwara State. Much learnings indeed and possibly encourage cross fertilisation by giving young Nigerians the chance to get mentorship. It must start from Nigeria willingness to support large scale agricultural projects. But what about SECURITY.
As someone who looks out for the w/w situ, I see the two countries doing tremendously great together. The Netherlands is absolutely keen on details, and all out on her interest in Nigeria, while the opportunity for high impact is presented here in Nigeria. I wish both parties a more prosperous deal.
Congratulations to the Kingdom of Netherlands and the people of Nigeria
Congratulations on both sides...especially on the mention of Agriculture, this will contribute positively towards food security in Africa

3moAs a Nigerian, I constantly feel energized whenever the President (the country's Chief Marketing Officer) is having committed engagement on trade & investment with other Presidents/Head of Governments through bilateral discourse. However, inclusion of timeline and expected deliverables on specific sector in focus will certainly enhance the realization of the main goal. As a Dutch/Nigerian groomed business leader, who understands the Dutch ethics towards business engagement, I am hopeful that this will be a thorough deal for both countries.
