This commitment was highlighted in the recent bilateral meeting between the Netherlands and Lagos State, focusing on key sectors such as Agriculture, ICT, Circular Economy, Health care, and Renewable Energy. This aligns with Lagos Governor's T.H.E.M.E.S agenda. Leading the charge from the Netherlands were Minister for Foreign Trade & Development Cooperation, Geoffrey Van Leeuwen, and Minister for Migration, Eric van der Burg. Representing Lagos were Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat and commissioners for Commerce and Industry, Environment, Innovation, Science and Tech, Agriculture, Justice, and SA SDGs. As much as the current New Patriotic Party’ s (NPP) administration tries to restore economic freedom to the people of Ghana as the country prepares for the next major elections to elect its leader in what is termed as a crucial test for Ghana future, experts have argued that the country’s economic fortunes rest on how it will focus more on the development of its local productions as well adding value to its raw materials for export to strengthen the local currency. Tade and policy analysts have also bet on the much-touted Africa’s single market Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) as the game-changer for Ghana and the rest of the continent to boost its intra-African trade that will bring the needed development to the people. However, it’s been three years since the continent launched the world’s biggest single market to  connects 1.3 billion people across 55 countries with a combined gross domestic product (GDP) valued at US$3.4 trillion.  But for Ghana to tap into the numerous benefits of AfCFTA, a flagbearer-hopeful of the New Patriotic Party, Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten, who is credited with pioneering the AfCFTA initiative and its secretariate in Ghana says he intends achieving economic recovery for Ghana if elected to govern the country by way of providing needed incentives, such as tax rebates, financial support and pro-local industry trade policies, compliant with Word Trade Organisation and AfCFTA protocols.

One of the agendas of the advocacy Committee is to create awareness and spearhead key performing indicators to the general public. Earlier today the Advocacy Committee of the Nigerian British Chamber of Commerce organised an webinar with the theme: Re-imagining Potential Opportunities for Trade & Investment in Nigeria Today. The webinar had in attendance industry players and government representatives who were able to share insights in potential openings in which Nigeria can gain viable investments opportunities in the region thereby boosting our economy. The discussion opened with a welcome address by the President and Chairman of Council, NBCC- Ray Atelly, frpa. He said that In the face of global challenges and evolving economic landscapes, it is imperative that we come together to re-imagine and innovate ways to drive sustainable growth and prosperity for our nation. Today, we gather not just as stakeholders in the business community, but as visionaries and advocates for positive change. Dr Mahmud Hassan; Director Trade and Exchange Department, Central Bank of Nigeria; he gave insights on the measures CBN is taking to stabilise the Naira and also mentioned that the forces of demand and supply in the economy have effects on the foreign exchange rate. John Humphrey; His Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for Africa UK DBT mentioned that the key drivers of Trade and Investment is the value-added goods and services and also diversification of other investment sectors, apart from Crude oil. He said other sectors like IT,Telcos and agriculture are viable means for investors. Dr Tayo Aduloju; CEO NESG who was ably represented by Dr. Muyiwa Alaba, said looking inwards into local economy can set the pace for investors. He also said about fairness in international Trade policies and how there should be level of protection for weak economies so as to be in the enclosure of trade and investment across the globe to also participate so they can thrive. He also said that the power sector needs investors because a country that progresses actually processes due to the constant supply of power and renewable energy. Dr Doris Anite; Minister, Industry, Trade & Investment who was ably represented by Mr Tuayeringha Gana. He was of the opinion that investors are looking towards agriculture, renewable energy and solid minerals. He also mentioned that there are incentives government have which serves as a leeway for investment to occur. National Assembly Support Will Help In Transforming Nigeria

at the risk of sounding like a pessimist, while I consider this a laudable idea, I cant but feel there's a set of people missing, who's contributions should also be prioritised; people that are close to the common man! everyone here is either a minister, a special adviser, or an industry giant... when was the last time any of these people sat down to have a discussion with a common man on the street? there should be reps in this committee from the political wards, local market associations, labour/workforce unions, youth organizations, Pensioners, NGOs, etc... maybe not in the committee per se, but their imput must be prioritized, harvested and considered when the final policies are being crafted. if our economy will really be meaningful, we must move from planning 'for' the common man, to planning 'with' him.

It's no secret that Rivers State has seen a decline in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), and the recent report from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) paints a concerning picture. The last quarter of 2022 witnessed 25 states, including Rivers, failing to attract any FDI. Amidst a political storm, the question lingers: What steps are being taken to reverse this trend? Is the government doing enough to attract foreign investments in Rivers State? An Austrian-based Rivers son who is now an industrial consultant, advisor, and consultant to German-speaking companies in Nigeria (Austrian, German, and Swiss) and assists the German Embassy and Austrian Embassy in commercial affairs joined me on the show for this conversation.
