Critical dependencies are as much an industrial concern (as they directly impact industry’s competitiveness) as a political one (because of their impacts on the capability to implement public missions). Happy to see that the topic eventually receives increasing political attention.

Why is space increasingly important for Sweden and the rest of the world? That is the question that will be answered as part of the Aerospace Almedalen event during Almedalsveckan on 26 June in Visby, Sweden. Aerospace Almedalen is the arena for aviation and space during the Almedalen week, the most important political forum in Swedish politics. Space is increasingly used as an integral part of our Swedish society. You use space systems all the time, consciously or unconsciously. In order to interpret the outside world, deal with climate problems and increase Sweden's resilience, space systems are needed. How do we ensure that Sweden has the required capacity? The importance of implicating industry into the critical conversation about critical technologies for European autonomy and non-dependency is clear for me. As builders of space systems they can offer a clear picture of the needs of our sector. That's why it is worth to read the takeaways of industry in this matter. But I would like to highlight two points which I find rather interesting in my view: -We have forums within Europe that are perfect to support this discussion, like the Component Technology Board (CTB) from the ESCC, which is already a working body that can perform this criticality identification easily. -Member states should also commit specific budgets to address the dependence reduction (a national level or through ESA),not letting the EU as the only actor on the matter.

🚀 This week, Dirk Verlee attended Space-Comm Expo in Farnborough, where he had the opportunity to engage with key players in the 𝗨𝗞 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 and witness groundbreaking innovations. Among the notable companies, Airbus Defence and Space and Reaction Engines stood out with their cutting-edge technologies! 🌌 A highlight was the talk by Alexander Vandenberghe of arcsec, who shared valuable perspectives on the industry's future! 🌍 It's exciting to see Flemish organisations like Vlaamse Ruimtevaartindustrie vzw & Flanders Space actively participating and contributing to the global space dialogue. Their efforts in fostering talent and innovation are truly commendable! 🤝 The 𝗨𝗞'𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 is evident, with new funding initiatives and strategic plans paving the way for advancements. Our CEO, Eva Berneke, joined fellow space industry leaders for a lively panel debate at the Paris Air Forum yesterday 💭 Alongside Stéphane Israël of ARIANESPACE; Herve DERREY of Thales Alenia Space; and Philippe Baptiste of the Centre National d'Études Spatiales, the discussion centered on how Europe can hold its own amid an increasingly competitive global space landscape. Eva notably urged Europe to transition from an ‘haute couture’ model to a more industrialized approach, warning that failing to make this leap could leave Europe lagging behind more integrated players. The panel concluded that Europe's success hinges on a more unified, coordinated approach between different players in the supply chain. State-funding for technological innovation, enhanced cost control and closely listening to and addressing customer needs will also be key enablers of Europe’s success as the space market continues to grow.

A good way to celebrate Europe Day in London, where we have come with our CEO, Jose Vicente de los Mozos, to collect the Golden Award from the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in the UK, is to review the notes of the meeting we held at our Indra headquarters the day before with the European Space Agency - ESA Director General, Josef Aschbacher, and his extraordinary team (Simona Richard, Professor Carole Mundell, Apostolia Karamali), and a prominent representation of the Spanish Space Agency (Cecilia Hernandez, Ana Marín, Isabel Pérez Grande). Space, both from a civilian point of view and because of its relevance as a security and defense domain, can be a transcendental element to strengthen the bond between the European Union and the United Kingdom, and project it beyond the ocean, towards our North Atlantic allies.
