While hydrogen and ammonia shows promise as a future fuel for power generation systems, it may be premature to rely on it as a primary source due to infrastructure challenges and technological limitations.
Had an enlightening experience attending the Atlantic Council and Atlantic Council Global Energy Center report launch event in London. The report, "Natural Gas and the Energy Transition: Security, Equity, and Achieving Net Zero" by Phillip Cornell, emphasizes that phasing out cleaner and more value-producing gas too early can cause price volatility, harm vulnerable communities, and actually delay the achievement of a net-zero future. During the panel discussion, we talked about the optimized role of natural gas in a net-zero future and the financial levers needed to enable that role. We also contextualized the role of natural gas as part of energy justice and discussed the importance of maintaining grid and price stability during the critical transition to a net-zero future. It's important to note that when rich countries restrict access to critical finance for the right projects, they shift risks, costs, and lost opportunities from rich to poor countries in the name of reducing emissions. A practical approach to comparing the value of abating a ton of CO2 with otherwise noble goals must necessarily be more inclusive of those directly affected. Forget national politics, instead in support of both economic reconciliation and a better standard of living in Canada support the building of the western energy corridor and the creation of an economic alliance between AB/SK/MB (the new west) that supports the re-industrialization of north America and the export of value added processing of both energy and food products created in the new west! Finally in 1973 the US was the biggest importer of oil and gas in the world. 50 years later the US is the largest exporter of oil and gas in the world! Canada time to help the world reduce their emissions through the export of cleaner than coal CDN energy i.e. CANDU reactors/expertise & LNG. Throw in new tech like NET power and you have 0 emission electricity from natural gas!

As a complex geopolitical crisis is challenging the world, Energy Dialogues will welcome experts in energy transition and security for a timely, closed-door discussion on the role of the U.S. in the international energy landscape. Join the New York Energy Dialogues on November 14 and be part of this necessary conversation. With a spectacular speaker line-up, we expect the discussion to cover some of the most significant questions affecting today’s energy landscape, including: - How to balance availability, accessibility, affordability and reliability of energy resources with energy transition pathways? - Is U.S. LNG the long-term solution to European energy requirements? And will the necessity for energy supplies override political concerns? - While infrastructure is still necessary to power the world, how do investors value investments in traditional fossil-fuel-enabling projects? The 8th annual National Energy Roundtable conference will gather business leaders, entrepreneurs and policy makers from across the country for discussions on Transforming Canada’s Energy Systems: How Fast and How Far? As addressing the impacts of climate change becomes increasingly urgent and Canada's energy needs grow, innovation, investment and energy system optimization are crucial. Upwards of $2 trillion will be required over the next twenty years to replace aging infrastructure and develop the next generation of energy systems. This will be vital as Canada seeks to meet its emissions goals and attract investments in manufacturing and transportation that are contingent on a decarbonized grid. At the National Energy Roundtable hear from a lineup of company chief executives and senior government officials from across Canada that are transforming complex energy systems and shaping the country’s energy future. ⚡Interesting read from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) about the Continental Power System Masterplan (CMP) and its plans for the future!!!⚡ "The development of cross-border energy infrastructure will culminate in the development of a fully integrated continental electricity market that will enhance trade and increase access to electricity for Africa’s 600 million people without connections to the power grid."

We head east on this episode of #ARCEnergyIdeas, to talk hydro power with Jennifer Williams, President and CEO of Newfoundland & Labrador Hydro. Hydro manages Newfoundland and Labrador’s electricity system, generating and transmitting most of the province’s electricity and exporting electricity to other parts of Canada and the US. Here are some of the topics we cover: • The Churchill Falls Generation Station (among the top ten hydro dams in the world outside of China) — its engineering achievement and the contract that set a low power price for 70 years • The possibility of green hydrogen projects operating in the region • Why the Atlantic Loop transmission project was scaled back • The potential effect of the draft Clean Electricity Regulations legislation, which proposes net-zero electricity by 2035 https://lnkd.in/gaWYksCw

It was an honor to be interviewed by the ENCA 404 Channel during the 4th National Demand Side Management Indaba, which was organized by the National Energy Crisis Committee Workstream 5 - Demand Management. The DSM Indaba will be hosted by Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality together with NECOM in support of the Energy Action Plan which is aimed at addressing the immediate electricity supply shortfall and ending loadshedding. The Indaba will bring together local and international experts, industry players and researchers in the field of energy demand management to collaborate, share best practice and unpack initiatives aimed at reducing South Africa’s electricity supply challenges. https://lnkd.in/dAzfcCUd
