This week, I stumbled upon something quite fascinating about rituals in communities. 🌍 It got me thinking - I never really saw rituals as a deeply emotional aspect of a community. But they can totally transform ordinary actions into something extraordinary with so much significance. ❤️🔥 It reminded me of a ritual in the web3 community that I'm part of. We have this tradition of attending global events and hackathons throughout the year. 🌐 These events are more than just dates on a calendar; they're like annual reunions in different countries, drawing us together from all corners of the world. 🤝 It's not just about traveling; it's about reconnecting with the web3 family. Being part of the crypto/web3 world, I've seen how we've embraced this ritual. It's not just attending a conference; it's about belonging, sharing, and growing together. 🌱 I'll never forget my first Devcon. It was more than a conference; it felt like joining a massive, welcoming family. 🫂 Sadly, I'll miss seeing my friends next week in Istanbul at Devconnect. But hey, I'm excited to meet both new and familiar faces in Lisbon during Web Summit and Newconomics! Although I can't be at Devconnect physically this year, I'm super happy to organize a meetup for the dm3 protocol 🔜 Devconnect this Monday, November 13th. (By the way, if you're keen to connect with the dm3 team, hit me up! 📩) While I'll be missing out on the fun in person, I can't wait to hear all about this year's Devconnect from my friends. And fingers crossed, I'll be there with you all at Devcon next year! #Web3Community #CryptoEvents #CommunityBuilding Carolina, Lorenza, Ashton, Jean-Paul, Lauren, Burkhard, David, Shahin, Sointu, Eva, Christiaan, Lubomyr, Dimitriy, Michal, Alexandra, Jork, Juliane, Laura

Gary Liu and I went to Asia's biggest Web3 show so you didn't have to... Any event with over 10,000 attendees and 100s of side events is worth going to just for networking, and TOKEN2049 delivers on that front with some caveats Constant queues, gallons of coffee, seemingly-daily hangovers and plenty of noise—here's what we took away from the show: - Asia is (still) the place to be for Web3 This goes without saying given the regulatory difference in Singapore/Hong Kong/Japan etc vs the US - The big themes were the obvious themes Lots of talk about regulation (again) and there's still around infrastructure, in this case projects focused on scaling or multi-chain - And the but... there's still a lot of weird sh*t in Web3 We still see poor quality projects (paying $20K for a booth!), VCs chasing short-term wins and more Our summary: https://lnkd.in/gTAVEBWd
We went to the largest Web3 event in Asia so you didn’t have to

How to make crypto conferences useful There’s a joke that one of the main use cases of crypto is conferences - you could literally go to a different conference on a different continent every week if you wanted. Done right though, conferences can be a huge benefit to a crypto startup of any stage. Here’s what to do: 1/ Be Super Selective It pays to be selective. To a first approximation, go to where there’s the highest developer density, within the context of what you’re building. For us at SimpleHash, that means 4-5 per year, namely EthDenver, EthCC, NFT NYC, Solana Breakpoint, and Token2049. 2/ Define Your Objectives. Maybe you’re looking to fundraise, or to time the conference with a major launch. For us, it’s all about meeting new and interesting builders in the space, and connecting with customers. Having a clear goal is critical to avoid wasting time. 3/ Plan Your Conference. Most of the time (with some exceptions like EthDenver and Token2049), the main conference events are not where you’ll find anything relevant. It’s all about the side events - which are usually more fun anyway. Most conferences have formal or informal lists of side events ahead of time. Don’t just blindly sign up for everything, think about your objectives. Will each event actually be a chance for you to meet the right people? But be careful not to overplan either - leave some room for serendipity. 4/ Tag Team There’s usually too many events to hit up alone. So split the workload across a team. Conferences aren’t for everyone either - for us, it’s usually myself and Josh Itzkovitz dividing and conquering. 5/ Be A Normal Person People hate when an interaction feels transactional. Go into each event with the goal of providing more value that you receive. It’ll be a huge unlock. Surprisingly this is missed a lot at crypto conferences. (Hint: this is a good rule for life too). 6/ Follow Ups (this is what most people miss) Don’t let all the contacts and conversations you’ve had go stale. People are busy, and get distracted. In the week after the conference, you should be spending almost as much time as you did at the conference following up, getting those calls booked, or agreeing on next steps. This is what I see missed most frequently, because it’s the least fun part (but also most important). Do these and you’ll be ahead of 99% of people. What did I miss?

🚀 Wrapped Update 🚀 We are thrilled to announce our debut web3 event at ETHDenver this week, Modular Day, a full-day event packed with keynotes, fireside chats, and panels, with tons of networking opportunities for attendees. Modular Day ---> https://lnkd.in/gs99h9gv It's been an amazing 10-week build-out in partnership with the great team at Movement Labs to bring this event concept to life. We're also incredibly fortunate, to have such a stacked lineup of partners and contributors to all things modular in web3; Abacus Works (Hyperlane), Aptos Labs, Avail, Avalanche, Berachain, Celestia Labs, Fluent, Fuel Labs, Initia Labs, Linera, NodeKit, Polygon Labs, Supra, The Rollup and Union Labs. When I founded Wrapped in October, I couldn't have imagined that our first event would gain the traction it has. With 15 partners and over 2,000 RSVPs, we're setting the standard for what pre, during, and post web3 event experiences should look like, while also setting the tone for Wrapped events in 2024 and beyond. If you'd like to learn more about Modular Day, are interested in collaborating, or just want to see what we're up to, don't hesitate to reach out! 👉 It's conference season👈 🤔 And I'm looking for recommendations 🤔 Where are you going? Which ones would you recommend? One conference that I'm really looking forward to is the Web3 Family Conference in Barcelona (September 22nd - 23th). Adrien Be. (pictured) among others have assembled a fantastic speaker list. I've been to Barcelona twice this year and I can't wait to go back - there's an incredible 'web3' community there. Tickets are reasonably priced too (€40). https://web3fc.xyz/ There's no substitute for meeting people IRL so.... Over the next month or two, I intend on attending several conferences across Europe. The problem is that I'm just not sure which ones I should attend. To date, I've only attended two conferences outside of Ireland. The last one, the Avalanche Summit, was fantastic for business. From it, I managed to place two amazing talents- a Solidity Dev (from Mexico) for a Blockchain Services company and a Social Media guru (based in the Canary Islands) for a RWA project. It was actually Adrien who advised me to go. Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend Dappcon next week - it's sure to be a blast. However, I do intend on going to several events over the next few months, but I just don't know which ones so I want YOUR advice. Which ones do you recommend? ( PS: I only want to know your recommendations if you've attended previous renewals) Here's my thought process as of now: 👉 I've heard amazing things about Zebu Live last year. 👉 I really like NEAR and Chainlink so both of their flagship events (in Lisbon and BCN respectively) should be really interesting. 👉 Bitcoin Amsterdam is coming up and to quote Michael Saylor 'there is no second best'. 👉 I attended EBC earlier this year - it was fantastic and I'd highly recommend it. 👉 There's a lot of cool things happening in the Solana ecosystem right now. Their event in Amsterdam is sure to be brimming with projects looking to hire. 👉 I've always wanted to visit Georgia and it just so happens that DeGameFi is on. 👉 Loads of people are talking about Istanbul. 👉 There's plenty of promising ETH events on too in the likes of Lisbon and London. As things are I'm like a kid in candy shop - there's no shortage of options, but needlesstosay, I can't attend them all. Are there any events that you'd recommend?? Am I missing any? 💡 Quick Networking Tip for Conferences 💡 The smoking area and phone charging stations - great places to meet new people 😉😜.
