Q: What’s a fun fact about yourself that many people may not know about you? 🥝 I lived in New Zealand for two years. This was before “Lord of the Rings” was filmed, so no, I didn’t get to see any of the sets. You won’t believe how many times I’ve been asked that question! Q: Can you share a piece of advice or a lesson you've learned in your career that has stuck with you? 🏆 “There’s no I in team,” so we succeed and fail together. If you’re unsure about something, always ask! It’s important to work together to solve a problem before it becomes a larger one. Q: What are your interests or hobbies? 📷 I really enjoy photography - specifically city life and natural life. Time lapses and panoramas are two of my favorite techniques for capturing a beautiful moment in time. Q: How do you handle challenges and setbacks at work to overcome those obstacles? 🔍 Whenever I encounter a challenge, I look at things analytically and approach the situation step by step. Giving myself a clear framework for getting from point A to point B is key to helping me solve a problem. Stacia Gerdts recently celebrated her 10-year anniversary working at Morningside. Congratulations, Stacia! We asked Stacia a series of questions about her time at Morningside over the years. Here's what she said: Q: What’s something you’ve done at Morningside that you’re proud of? A: Became a Program Manager Q: Do you have any advice for someone new to this field? A: Take it one day at a time, continue to be open to learning and growing, be patient with yourself, the people served and stakeholders and be present. You will be greatly rewarded by the relationships you build. Q: What originally brought you into this field and fueled your passion? A: I realized the industry I’d been in for 20 years was drastically changing, and my current employer [at the time] was not. I felt I had two options; change employers to continue my career in that field or I could look for a whole new career, as I still had many, many, years to work. I had developed a strong relationship with Morningside for at least 10 years through my (previous) employer, and on a more personal level, I've had a desire to work with folks experiencing life differently since high school, and felt this was a good opportunity to take a risk. Q: What have you learned from your 10 years with Morningside? A: I couldn’t have imagined the personal growth I've made and the wonderful people I have had the pleasure of working with and getting to know. I am truly grateful to Morningside for believing in me and supporting my growth. I have learned everything! 😊 I had 0 experience before I came to Morningside and have learned so many things, I couldn't even begin to list them. Q: What has been your most impactful memory at Morningside? A: My most impactful memories are of the clients we serve, how it feels, and what a privilege it is for me to be a part of their successes and challenges, as well as see the pride they carry for [their] accomplishments. We get to see some amazing people do amazing things. Annika Veis recently celebrated her 5-year anniversary working at Morningside. We asked her a series of questions about her time at Morningside over the years. Here's what she said: Annika: Q: What’s something you’ve done at Morningside that you’re proud of? A: Being able to work with new staff and help them find their passion for the field and support their growth and progression. Q: Do you have any advice for someone new to this field? A: Have grace with yourself and others. You have to be patient with the learning curve that comes with this field and remember that you’re still doing important work even when you have doubts. Q: What originally brought you into this field and fueled your passion? A: I used to work at a summer theater program where I knew some people who eventually went on to be Morningside clients. Working with these individuals in that program was impactful and eventually led me to the field and to work at Morningside. Q: What have you learned from your 5 years with Morningside? A: We are stronger as a team and can have a meaningful positive impact working together! Q: What has been your most impactful memory at Morningside? A: My first month at Morningside, we had the client holiday party. Another Career Consultant (CC) was supporting a client I hadn’t yet met, and asked if I could assist for a few minutes while she stepped away. She let me know that the best way to support this client was to walk around with them – I ended up walking back and forth with that client for the rest of the party. I felt like I had no clue what I was doing, but at the staff party the next week, our CEO Jonathan Pleger sat next to me and told me he was impressed by the way I supported that client and took the time to get to know her. ✨ That’s a wrap on our June Town Hall! 🎉 Every month we gather in-person and virtually for our monthly town hall. As a global company, this is our opportunity to meet, talk about what’s working and what’s not, and share some wins and obstacles in our business. We started doing this a few years back and boy has it evolved! We’ve since introduced our monthly morale score – I’d like to do a separate post on this – but basically, it’s our most critical metric to tell us how our team feels about the culture. 😊 We also cover our Vision, Mission, and Values where we tell stories about how we’ve worked toward our goals, and what values we’ve applied to various situations. 🌍 We celebrate birthdays 🎂, anniversaries 🎉, high achievers 🏆, new starters 🙌, and all of our critical helpdesk stats like CSAT, turnaround times, attendance, and quality of service. 📊 I really can’t imagine running our company without this key meeting. It keeps us all on the same page and ready to charge forward into the next month. 🚀 Does your company have a Town Hall or something similar? 💬

In June of 1998, during our senior year of high school, my parents went to Puerto Vallarta, leaving me to hold down the fort in Chicago. Around that time, my friend Jerry faced some serious issues at home and needed a place to stay. Without hesitation, I welcomed him in. We spent a few weeks sharing my home, navigating the challenges of teenage life together. Fast forward to Ozzfest that year – a weekend we had all been eagerly anticipating. Jerry had promised to drive me to meet the rest of our friends. I put my faith in him, trusting that he would come through. However, on the weekend of the event, he never showed up, leaving me stranded and deeply disappointed. This not only ruined my plans for the weekend but also damaged our friendship. Trust is a fragile thing, and being let down by someone I considered a close friend was a harsh lesson in the importance of reliability and commitment. This experience taught me a few valuable lessons that have resonated throughout my career: Trust but Verify: While it’s essential to trust your colleagues and partners, having a backup plan is crucial. In business, just like in life, contingencies ensure continuity and success. Resilience in the Face of Disappointment: Being let down by Jerry was a tough pill to swallow, but it reinforced the importance of resilience. In the professional world, setbacks are inevitable. What matters is how we bounce back and learn from them. Support Systems Matter: Offering Jerry a place to stay was my way of supporting a friend in need. In business, fostering a supportive and collaborative environment can make a significant difference in team morale and productivity. Commitment to Follow-Through: Jerry’s failure to follow through on his promise highlighted the importance of reliability. In our professional lives, being dependable and honoring commitments builds trust and strengthens relationships. This story from my past serves as a reminder of the importance of trust, resilience, support, and commitment in both personal and professional contexts. Four lessons learnt in four years 💡 As we celebrate our 4th birthday today, we’re reflecting on some key lessons that have guided our success: 🧍♀️Prioritise your team and suppliers: Treat your staff and suppliers like your most valued clients. Celebrate small wins, prioritise mental health, and invest in professional growth. A strong team is the foundation of any thriving business. 🚶♀️Know when to walk away: As a small business, it may feel counterintuitive to turn down work. However, if there’s no mutual respect or a client is making your job unnecessarily difficult, it’s better to part ways. Your team’s worth is undeniable—you hired them for a reason. 👑 Value your worth: In the early days, it’s tempting to take every opportunity - but don’t undersell yourself. Be selective and confident in the value that you bring. 💪 Maintain strong relationships: While it’s not always possible to avoid burning bridges, it’s crucial to nurture the relationships that matter. Word of mouth is a powerful tool, and our growth has been fueled by the recommendations of partners, clients, and suppliers.
