What is IATA and its purpose? IATA is the trade association for the world's airlines. It supports many areas of aviation activity and helps formulate industry policy on critical aviation issues. IATA was founded in Havana, Cuba, on 19 April 1945. It is the prime vehicle for inter-airline cooperation in promoting safe, reliable, secure and economical air services - for the benefit of the world's consumers. The international scheduled air transport industry is more than 100 times larger than it was in 1945. Few industries can match the dynamism of that growth, which would have been much less spectacular without the standards, practices and procedures developed within IATA. At its founding, IATA had 57 members from 31 nations, mostly in Europe and North America. Today it has some 300 members from 120 nations in every part of the globe.

At the 2023 World Financial Symposium, Adrian Neuhauser (CEO of Avianca), Luis Rodrigues (Chairman and CEO, TAP Air Portugal), and Willie Walsh (DG, #IATA) shared their thoughts around passenger experience. The panel was moderated by Karen Walker (Editor-in-Chief, Air Transport World). IATA’s Global Passenger Survey shows that the majority of passengers are satisfied with the travel experience. #Speed and #convenience were highlighted as the major passenger requirements. The CEOs panel emphasized that this doesn’t need to come at a greater cost; rather, it could be a win-win for airlines and passengers through simpler, #digital #processes. More insights? The Bounce methodology is based on OAG and Skytrax data. Whilst there can be no argument with the operational performance from OAG, based on my personal and professional experience, I have long questioned some of the Skytrax ratings and would love to know how some of the airlines feel about their scores. Their rating agenda is not revealed to the public and neither is it determined by customer reviews, so we have to place our trust in the Skytrax audit team's findings. Therefore, when you see statements like 'the world's best airline', add the words 'as rated by Skytrax' (just as Bounce has done in the image) and then, if you are deciding which airline to fly, make your decision with that in mind. Now, how is Emirates so far behind Qatar Airways? According to Bounce, they score lower on 1) meals 2) seat comfort 3) staff service and 4) free checked domestic baggage allowance. I won't pass comment on 1, 2 and 3 even though I have my own views, but on point 4, neither Qatar Airways (QR) nor Emirates (EK) flies domestically so how has QR scored 30 against EK's 23? Surely both should score zero? Perhaps somebody from Skytrax or Bounce would care to comment. By all means be guided by Skytrax and Bounce, but as their findings are not determined by the best jury of all - airline passengers - just remember that their rankings and awards are largely based on their opinions. #airlines #airlineindustry #awards #ratings #rankingfactors

Air Serbia expects to carry more than four million passengers in 2023 – an increase of 45% year-on-year and 2.4 times its 2019 record number of 2.8 million. Serbia's biggest airline has outpaced the wider European recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. Its network expanded from 59 airports in summer 2019 to 80 in summer 2023. Further expansion is planned, to 100 destinations by 2027. Air Serbia has implemented strong growth, in spite of increased low cost airline seat share in Serbia versus 2019. Moreover, this has been achieved without sacrificing profitability, as the airline anticipates a record net profit for 2023. CAPA - Centre for Aviation https://lnkd.in/e7J5uAMt
