After getting fed up of a series of deaths on our local roads - they decided to do something about it. Is such a postal service in history, the story of sending parcels to children is an interesting news. 🫢🫢 Today, if you are going to visit your grandpa, grandma, aunt, great-grandpa, how will you go? You will use any mode of transport be it bus, train or car. But can you believe that in the early 20th century, parents used the postal service to transport their children to various locations? Yes. This is true. Train travel was very expensive in those days. A day's wages had to be spent on one-way travel alone. As a result, working parents and parents unable to care for unwell children used to send their children to safety accompanied by the postal service. A couple from Ohio, USA, mailed their 8-month-old baby boy, James, to his grandmother, who lives a few miles away. Baby James had his clothes stamped and sent to his grandmother's house via parcel post. For his parents, it cost only 15 cents to send a child through the mail. This humorous story soon appeared in the newspapers. Over the next few years, other parents followed suit. Later, Postmaster General Albert S. What locations come to mind when you think about #modernslavery ? Cumbria, a beauty spot in England, is one such place. Cumbria Police have worked hard in regards to awareness and it is this reason, along with public vigilance that they attribute the increase in numbers. In other words, they are getting closer to the reality of the situation in #cumbria which is often associated as a beauty spot for tourism but #modernslavery and #humantrafficking finds its way here. This even impacts child victims. Awareness is one element for prevention but so is Hope for Justice and Slave-Free Alliance training which raises the robust response that first responders are looking for. #kudos to the hard work of exposing the issue. https://lnkd.in/e7_kS5f7

MEASURE HLA on the March 5 Ballot in Los Angeles -- Last week, we wrote about the Los Angeles Mobility Plan 2035 which was passed in 2015. This Plan was designed to improve LA streets, add bike lanes and bus lanes, make travel safer for pedestrians, encourage public transit, and more. Unfortunately, the city has only implemented about 5% of the Plan in the almost-decade since it was passed. Last year in LA, more people were killed by traffic accidents than homicide, and over half of them were pedestrians. There's a measure on the City of LA ballot next week, Measure HLA or Healthy Streets LA, which would require the city to implement Mobility Plan 2035 every time it repaves 1/8 mile of street or repairs 1/8 mile of sidewalk. If it fails to do so, any LA resident can sue to force compliance. So far, Measure HLA has garnered the support of several council members, transportation committee members, advocacy groups, and labor unions. Opposing the measure is the LA Firefighters union, which argues the plan will slow down emergency response times and put LA citizens at risk.
