Senior Colorist Siggy Ferstl has an impressive list of credits that includes Netflix's 'Avatar: The Last Air Bender,' 'Wednesday' and Prime Video's 'The Boys.' In a recent interview with LBBonline - Little Black Book, he discussed his creative process when working with collaborators. "When I see the images for a commercial, my first impressions are usually about how it was shot. I try to put myself in the cinematographer's headspace before having a conversation with the creatives to see what their ideas and expectations are for the spot. I usually weigh up all those factors, and I like it when I can have the time to get a feel of the images and then develop a look once I have all that information." Chris Cornell, Soundgarden. Client: Rolling Stone Magazine Digging through the film archive the other day I chanced upon a shoot from The Big Day Out from 1997, or thereabouts. One of the downsides of analogue media is the lack of information, now referred to as "metadata" on each file, as you can see with the transparencies, everything was added later on adhesive tape or simply written with permanent marker. These files were then posted off, (only one copy) for syndication. I'm of the opinion there were many upsides to shooting film, there was more time in the physical world interacting and socializing with humans, and shooting film also required a different level of skill. Having said that, I also appreciate the advancements in contemporary image capture. Not better or worse, just different. Regardless of the technology, and ease of delivery, content is king. #music #artists #concerts #reportage.

WORK IN PROGRESS, PART 2 - Getting started - taping panel edges (time-lapse film) Taping the substrates’ (panels’) edges to mask them from the forthcoming acrylic gesso paint was a long, tedious process that lasted many hours late into the night. This must be done with careful precision, and there are really no shortcuts. I ultimately taped the edges on 40 panels. This was not fun and no, I did not reach a meditative state of enlightenment while working on this. To survive the ennui, I listened to Broadway musicals while working, but caution: doing that might heighten the torturous effect of this process for non-Broadway fans. I am sharing the long hours of tedious substrate preparation here to raise awareness about artistic process and the experiences of everyday working artists, sans the benefit of assistants. P.S. I used Frog tape @frogtape for the first time ever, so GOSH, I hope it works as well as the company’s ads indicate. We’ll find out soon. 😑 #Work #Werk #Art #StarvingArtist #Installation #TimelapseFilm #WorkInProgress #Part2 #GettingStarted #Phase2 #ElizabethMeggs #WIP #workinprogress
