It's that time when we all celebrate the Fourth of July holiday with family, friends and fireworks. But before you light up the sky, take a moment to consider the latest report from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, which highlights that there were 9,700 hospitalizations due to fireworks in 2023. Teenagers 15 to 19 years old had the highest estimated rate of emergency department-treated, firewords-related injuries, while children ages 5-9 had the second highest rate. Plus, an estimated 800 emergency department-treated injuries were associated with firecrackers and 700 due to sparklers. As personal injury attorneys, we urge you to practice firework safety or, better yet, leave it to the professionals. Let's make this Fourth of July a fun and safe celebration for everyone! #fireworksafety #fireworks

Nothing says the 4th of July like fireworks! As we head into the holiday, UP Health System - Portage would like to remind everyone of a few safety tips for handling fireworks to ensure a safe and fun time: ✅ Light fireworks one at a time, then move quickly away from the device. ✅ Keep a bucket of water or a garden hose handy, in case of fire or other mishap. ✅ Never place any part of your body directly over a fireworks device when lighting the fuse. ✅ Move to a safe distance immediately after lighting fireworks. ✅ After fireworks complete their burning, to prevent a trash fire, douse the spent device with plenty of water before discarding it.
