This week's IPBC Asia presentations and panel discussions in Tokyo shed light on the importance of Japan (and Asia) in our lives, even outside of Japan in Germany from where I am writing this post.
From Japanese cuisine, tea ceremonies, gardens, design & art, to household name technology and engineering companies, Japan has much to offer and its influence is more than one realizes.
In terms of IP and specifically when it comes to Standard Essential Patents, key companies such as NTT DoCoMo, NEC, Panasonic, Toshiba, Mitsubishi Electric and Sony are responsible for some 10% of the known declared active 431,000 Standard Essential Patents (SEPs) worldwide.
These SEPs make their mark across the interoperability of technical standards and innovation applications in areas such as cellular technologies, WiFi, and video codecs. Let's not underestimate the significance of their meaning and value.

Just returned from the World of Photonics China Exhibition in Shanghai 2023, and I must say, it was an absolutely magnificent show!! 🌟
The magnitude of development achieved in such a short period is truly awe-inspiring.
Things I learnt from my visit to China—
1. Ability to adapt- This puts them 20 years ahead of us in so many aspects.
2. Commitment to technology support and advancement.Crystal Clear Mindset and Focus
3. Globalisation through localization seems to be their mantra, and it's indeed something that others can learn from.
4. It's Mandarin everywhere. They are highly connected to their roots(P.S.. Translator was my saviour)
This serves as a valuable lesson for every community and country – staying true to your roots doesn't hinder progress; it propels you to greater heights.
Overall, this trip has left me with invaluable insights and a deep admiration for China's progress and vision🌏🔬

To ensure security of supply, security, and strengthen Europe’s position, significant actions are being taken in the semiconductor industry. With the global semiconductor market expanding, there is a growing demand for microchips. This scenario calls for transformative actions across Finland and Europe. Hence, the launch of new initiatives is crucial to spur the industry. Since 2020, SoC Hub has been instrumental in fostering System-on-Chip design skills, mobilizing companies and nurturing emerging talent. In line with these efforts, Tampere University is introducing a new master’s degree module in SoC design, commencing in the autumn 2024. In addition, Tampere Chips Programme led by Business Tampere is implementing the opportunities of Chips Joint Undertaking to advance Finland's semiconductor industry.
Read the comments of Ari Kulmala, Professor of Practice of System-on-Chip design at Tampere University in Tekniikka&Talous article (in Finnish).

It is Time to Stop Pretending in the Name of Business and Profits
I am getting routinely called out in LinkedIn to comment; write books, give invited talks, and attend conferences. I have turned all invitations down and will continue to do so.
I will not be participating in these events and deals. In order for me to help the optics, photonics, and lighting industries, they must first recognize what I have already done with public statements; further IES, IEEE, APS, CIE, IEC, and ICNIRP must publicly apologize to me for shunning my work while they hold their erroneous science and mathematics on high pedestal. If they don't know where and how they are making mistakes in their radiation calculation and measurement, then they should work with the mainstream academia to create an education platform where I could teach. It is NOT enough to call out my name and snoop around what I write in LinkedIn. This is getting very tiring. If any of you think I am waiting for any recognition or profit, you are damn wrong.
