INNOVIT is the first Italian Innovation and Culture Hub in San Francisco, promoted by the Directorate General for the Country System of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy in Washington and the Consulate General in San Francisco, and managed with the support of the Italian Trade Agency and the Italian Cultural Institute of San Francisco. "A well-characterized need is the DNA of a great invention." Too many #healthtech startups fixate on their solution, But not on the problem they're trying to solve. They are more concerned about the route to scale, But not on how to provide #patients and #clinicians value. They try to fit our problems into the mold of their solution, Rather than taking time to build something that we need. They are a hammer, Looking for nails. _____________________________________ The Stanford Byers Center for Biodesign asserts that: 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬. But a process that can be learned, practiced, and perfected. However, it starts with understanding the clinical need. It requires: - Intense secondary research (Literature review) - Robust stakeholder engagements (Interviews/ Surveys) - Direct observation (Shadowing / Site visitations) You have to become an expert in your need area. (Not a know it all, but a know-enough). ______________________________________ But why don't some healthtech #founders do this? Its multifactorial, but among them are: 1. Having a build fast, fail fast mentality which biases them to action rather than research. 2. Difficulty accessing #healthcare professionals entering clinical settings. 3. Not having a robust methodology to research their problem areas. Problem no.1 has to be solved internally, Problem no.2 is a problem Adopt-A-Doc is trying to solve. For those interested in MedTech innovation and startups in the Medical sphere, I encourage you to follow Clinical Innovation Platform (CLIP). It's an incubator for MedTech startups part of the Centre universitaire de santé McGill | McGill University Health Centre, based in the Montreal General Hospital. They have already supported some incredible businesses in their early stages such as FemTherapeutics Inc. and Momentum Health.
