Really proud to be a part of this! How does a company specializing in #PVD and #PECVD #coating equipment #simulation end up involved in a project where we assist in designing a modular #electric #propulsion system for satellites, two of which are already being flown in space?🛰️🛰️ #vaccum #arc that many of us know as the legacy method of growing hard coatings💎 and decorative coatings 🌈has actually been considered for satellite propulsion since the 1970s 🤷♂️⚡. #mpd thusters physics, in turn, bears a lot of resemblance with our well-known #hipims in their complex interplay between gas flow, ionization wave, and magnetic fields. So that's how, thank you Comat for inviting us on board for the second time already 😊
What if we combined two electric thruster technologies in a single power and control unit? ☄ __________ We are proud to introduce the Modular Pulsed Propulsion System (MP²S), an innovative solution for space electric propulsion. This project relies on the combination of a vacuum arc thruster (VAT) and a Pulsed-Magnetoplasmadynamic thruster (P-MPDT) in a single power and control unit, to create a modular and multitechnologic system. The aim is to offer the advantages of both technologies: long life duration and high impulse for P-MPDT, precise momentum generation and compactness for VAT. This will allow to cover a wider range of missions, from orbit raising and station keeping to attitude control or in-flight formation for instance. 🛰 Since December 2023, COMAT alongside CNRS - Centre national de la recherche scientifique (ICARE & LAPLACE), Institute of Space Systems, PlasmaSolve s.r.o., and EnduroSat has been developing the different building blocks for the P-MPDT. The VAT part is already qualified and has a flight heritage with the Plasma Jet Pack, which is flying on two satellites. Want to know more? Bravo l'innovation !

2wImpressive growth! We are not alone from Pvd to Space.
