Today is a powerful day: Black Women's Equal Pay Day! It sheds light on the pay disparity between Black women and non-Latino White men in the United States. On average, Black women must work well into the new year to earn what their White male counterparts made in the previous year. The numbers speak volumes. Black women working full-time, year-round are paid just 67 cents for every dollar earned by non-Latino White men. This wage gap persists across education levels and is a result of racial discrimination. It's crucial to acknowledge that the pay gap widens even further for Black women in part-time or seasonal jobs. To bridge this gap, pay transparency laws that require employers to share pay information could play a vital role. By addressing and combating racial discrimination, we can work towards closing the pay gap for Black women and promoting fairness and equality in the workplace. Find more information on Women Entrepreneurship grants here! https://hubs.ly/Q01XbDj00 On this significant day, let's join forces, raise awareness, and strive for a future where Black women receive equal pay for their invaluable contributions. Together, we can create a more just and inclusive society. #BlackWomensEqualPayDay #EqualPay #PayEquity

We're halfway through Small Business Month — and WEOC is continuing to highlight the work of people supporting businesses majority-owned by women. Next up is Brandi Butts who serves as project manager for Community Futures British Columbia’s Entrepreneurs with Disabilities Program. As a WEOC member, her organization is committed to amplifying the work of women entrepreneurs in British Columbia. We spoke to her about work in making a more inclusive ecosystem for small business owners, including those with disabilities. *How does Community Futures B.C.'s Entrepreneurs with Disabilities Program support the work of small business owners?* Community Futures B.C. supports small business owners with a self-declared and/or assessed disability or ongoing health issue through their Entrepreneurs with Disabilities Program, which is designed to help individuals start and grow their businesses. *What’s one way you’re aiming to specifically support women and non-binary entrepreneurs?* Community Futures B.C. is aiming to support women and non-binary entrepreneurs by creating a safe and inclusive learning environment within their Entrepreneurial Development Program. That includes embracing inclusive pronouns, and ensuring that program staff are trained and certified in Gender-Based Analysis Plus (GBA ). *Why do you think it’s important to support the work of women and non-binary entrepreneurs?* As role models, women and non-binary entrepreneurs inspire others to break down traditional gender stereotypes in business...In essence, supporting these entrepreneurs isn't just a social responsibility; it's a strategic imperative that benefits individuals, and community economic development. #smallbusinessmonth

Exciting developments are underway in Canberra's business landscape, with the ACT Government’s new small business strategy targeting the increase of female-owned businesses.🎯 With women currently owning around 35% of businesses in the ACT, slightly above the national average, there is significant potential for growth.📈 The new strategy aligns with the government's priority to better reflect the number of women in the Canberra community within the business ownership landscape. One of the key initiatives the ACT Government is sponsoring is the Canberra Women in Business Awards, a great platform to acknowledge and celebrate success stories of female entrepreneurs, amplifying their contributions to our vibrant business community. Sheena Ireland, highlighted the crucial need for supporting culturally and linguistically diverse women and indigenous women to kickstart their ventures, as their unique ideas are key to diversifying our economy. Must read for any aspiring female entrepreneurs! Unbelievable to think that the fight for equal pay has been raging for more than 50 years! It's only been since 2009 the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration act was signed by Obama to allow women to sue for pay discrimination 6 months after the fact. Yes, there are still gender disparities in entrepreneurship but the playing ground is more even. With the right mentorship and a collaborative mindset, the chances of success, not just equality, are much higher. For those serious about entrepreneurship, it's certainly worth a read! #entrepreneurship #leadership #mentorship #NoCeiling
