We use an expedition theme to develop leaders and unite teams. We believe stepping away from the workplace with colleagues for team and leadership development is important for several key reasons: - It provides a distraction-free environment that allows participants to fully focus on learning and development without the interruptions of daily work responsibilities. This dedicated time and space promotes deeper engagement and reflection. - It fosters stronger relationships and team bonding by giving colleagues opportunities to interact in a more relaxed setting outside of normal work pressures. This can improve communication, trust, and collaboration when back in the office. - It offers a fresh perspective and broader view of the organization by removing people from their usual routines and environments. This can spark new ideas and strategic thinking. - It allows for more intensive, immersive learning experiences through activities like workshops, group discussions and experiential activities that may not be feasible in the office. - It demonstrates the organization's commitment to investing in leadership development, which can boost morale and engagement. - It provides a psychologically safe space for leaders to openly discuss challenges, workshop solutions, and develop team culture away from workplace distractions. - It enables leaders to gain broader business perspectives from guides and peers and develop a shared understanding of organizational goals and priorities. Leadership expeditions can create transformative experiences that drive meaningful behavioural change and skill development by removing participants from the day-to-day work environment. The change of scenery and dedicated focus time are key to maximizing the impact of these initiatives, and we choose the Victorian Leadership Centre at the magnificent Flowerdale Estate. Founder & Head Coach @ High Performance Orgs | Executive coaching and training to build high-performing teams.
Yesterday, I started interviewing the senior leaders at one of our client companies. The goal? To pinpoint the skill gaps they need to fill this year to not just meet, but exceed their ambitious goals for 2024. We're creating a custom training program to help their senior leaders grow. But that's not the norm. Most companies cut training and development budgets for this year. Most employees and leaders feel they're being asked to do more with less and they aren't developing the skills they need to stay competitive. A lot of employees tell me they feel their skills are outdated, they're overwhelmed with busy work, and or are simply unable to focus on development. As a result, year after year, they fall further behind their industry peers. Don't let that be your team. Set them up for success. Invest time (and money, if you can) in their growth and development. After all, ALL of your growth is driven by your people. Here's a quick exercise that will help: Ask every employee: What are the top 3 skills you need to learn in 2024 to do your job better? To be more successful? To feel more confident? What are you doing to close the skills gap in your organization?
STOP EVERYTHING! An alarming 74% of today's workforce is feeling neglected and unappreciated due to a lack of developmental opportunities. This isn't just a scary statistic - it's a deafening siren that demands immediate attention. For most organizations, that means your team is falling behind, feeling outdated, unequipped for these challenging times. Sure, times are difficult, and the economic environment may not be ideal for investing in development. But here's the rub - compromising your team's growth and development is a fast track to failure. Are you willing to take that gamble? Enter our Bespoke Training Programs. We don't just create training initiatives - we sharpen them to a fine point, attending to your organization's unique challenges. We don't just "train" your employees, we mold them into future leaders. We can work with your leaders and employees to co-create inspiring development plans that align with their career goals, your organizational objectives and increase their loyalty and effectiveness. With our Leadership Accelerator - a potent 10-week online workshop series - we provide the missing link in most leaders' education. From trust-building and emotional acumen to advanced performance conversations, we've got it all covered. The Employee Experience is more than just a buzzword. It's the key to unlocking your organization's potential. Do you have the development programs to keep your teams engaged, energized and productive? Are you up to the challenge of bridging the development gap? What's holding you back from maximizing your team’s unprecedented potential?

🤔 Are you a leader who exudes a know-it-all mindset, radiating confidence in possessing all the solutions? While this mentality may stem from a genuine desire to wield authority, be perceived as intelligent, or simply be helpful, it could be inadvertently harming your company culture. 💭 The belief that you have all the answers can hinder full engagement, dampen collaboration, and elicit defensiveness and resistance among your employees. To break free from this pattern, it's essential to embrace collaboration and foster a genuine curiosity about others' perspectives. Even if you believe you hold the experience or the answers, creating space for alternative ideas is crucial. Acknowledge that there's often more than one valid approach to a situation, and by welcoming diverse perspectives, you not only unlock innovative solutions but also make your employees feel acknowledged and valued. 🤝 Embrace collaboration by asking questions, actively listening, and inviting everyone into the conversation. This shift not only enhances the overall workplace atmosphere but also cultivates an environment where creativity and teamwork can flourish. Our Coaching Skills for Leaders (CS4L) program encourages key behavioural shifts, addressing negative behaviours like this to enhance team effectiveness, engagement, and ownership. > Learn more about CS4L here: https://bit.ly/42mCSzR Leadership Behaviours That Negatively Affect Culture > See more here: https://bit.ly/3uTySL7 #behaviouralshift #leadershipalignment #continuousimprovement #leadershipdevelopment #organizationalchange #culturematters

Does every employee deserve to get access to leadership development? Based on my experience, it should be a top priority for all organisations to develop leadership skills from the day an employee joins. The notion of expensive programs delivering generic content to the select few, to show them they are valued is, in my view, as outdated as the corner office. Neena Newberry nicely argues the benefits of providing more employees with access to development programs, as well as thoughts on scaling. I have been working on this opportunity for several years and I have shared posts and articles on the challenges and potential solutions. To scale access to development programs requires a huge shift in current thinking from all stakeholders, and that is not easy to achieve. Two years ago, I wrote an article on why thinking like an automotive manufacturer is the key to scaling development programs. Configurable platforms enable car makers to build many variants from the same basic components. Applying this principal to employee development programs allows for the same components to be used across many programs. By deconstructing development programs into component parts, it's possible to scale them sufficiently to provide open enrollment for all employees. Designing scalable, configurable programs, scaling internal facilitators, negotiating new vendor agreements, and internal change management are just some of the challenges I am working through to provide sustainable access to all employees. Beyond leadership development, there are other critical capabilities that can also benefit from this approach. Enabling all employees to develop sales and marketing, innovation and technical skills through low cost / no cost collaborative development experiences could accelerate talent development, improve talent retention and most importantly, positively impact business results. Onwards...
