R&R..... Rest & Relaxation OR Reward & Recognition? 🌞 🏆
Whatever R&R means to you, last week for me it symbolised both.
I took some much needed time in the sun, soaking in blue skies & sparkling sea water, whilst building castles in the Spanish sand with my little boy. Some quality time with people I love, switching off my work brain and engaging in some family time.
Whilst I was sipping on sangria 🍷 news broke from some of my people team colleagues that we had just won an award for 'Best Flexible Working Policy' at the UK Company Culture Awards, and whilst our 100-80-100 trial programme has been a huge learning curve for us at CP (we still haven't fully cracked it) the process has been enlightening and is really helping us to begin to question how we do things.
We still have a commitment to become a 4 day week business as part of our 3 year vision, but changes like these don't happen overnight, they take time, they require lots of trial and error, copious amounts of feedback; and a massive effort from every single CP'er to navigate through the peaks and pitfalls of making such a monumental change 🗻 it's a journey!
However; to receive an award in recognition of all the hard work that has gone into the beginnings of this change is fabulous; and spurs us on to keep aiming for that goal.
I sat smiling, feeling very blessed for our business to have been recognised in this way; and whilst I wistfully watched the sunset.... my phone pinged again.
Another award, this time for People Team of the Year. Beyond proud. 😁
I know I work with some truly amazing individuals, I see it every day. They honestly make me look considerably better at my job than I am.
The past 12 months has been full on for all of them, supporting our biggest acquisition yet and doing it all on top of their day jobs, nothing too much trouble and always with a smile. I am genuinely grateful for all they have given of their time, their energy and their commitment, but it hits differently when someone else recognises that hard work too. 💓
I am in no doubt that every team that was up for that award has worked their socks off, but I know my people team and I know how much this award will mean to them all.
By this point I was feeling a little emotional and reflective, but before I had time to wipe a happy tear from my cheek my phone buzzed again.....
The message said 'Hells bells, that's 3 times on stage!!' along with a photo of a third trophy. This one was special. Our very own Caroline Jones MCIPD won HR Professional of the Year! 🔔 🔔 🔔
Now, the whole team work super hard, but Caroline has given so so much this year. She joined CP as cover for my maternity leave. When I returned, there was an opportunity for her to stick around - and thankfully she did.
Caroline is....
the yin to my yang ☯
the bat to my ball 🎾
the butter to my toast 🍞
She 100% deserved this award. I know she wont shout about it herself, so I am doing it for her. Immensely proud.
A HAT-TRICK OF AWARDS 🏆 ✨
Last week, we came home from the UK Company Culture Awards with three prizes.
The awards “recognise the organisations that nurture their workforce, reward their staff, and create an environment that proves everyone is valued”.
And that’s why we’re pleased as punch to say:
🏆 Our 100-80-100 initiative won ‘Best Flexible Working Policy’
🏆 We won ‘Best HR Team of the Year’
🏆 And a personal award went to the brilliant Caroline Jones, our HR Director, who was crowned ‘HR Professional of the Year’.
New trophies on the mantelpiece are always a cause for celebration. But we’re even happier that the hard work we’re putting into creating an award-winning culture is paying off.

10hColes Mobile and Optus: Accountability is Coming From December 6, 2023, to May 25, 2024, I was unable to make outgoing calls from my Coles Mobile service, except to their support team. Despite numerous attempts to resolve this issue, I received no adequate support or resolution. This 180-day ordeal caused immense stress, anxiety, hospitalization, and a significant loss of income. Adding insult to injury, unauthorized contact from Catch Connect, an Optus-affiliated provider, informed me that my contract was terminated—a clear violation of my privacy. Coles Mobile's response? A partial refund that doesn't cover the impact I've endured. Their continuous failures and lack of accountability have pushed me to escalate my complaint to the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman (TIO). Now, the TIO will thoroughly investigate these issues and hold Coles Mobile and Optus accountable for their shortcomings. It’s time for real accountability and fair compensation. #CustomerExperience #ColesMobile #Optus #Accountability #TIO
