👏 We are giving a standing ovation to the newly announced "Career Pathways Pilot 2023-2025" - which has been designed to provide people with disability the opportunities for job fulfilment and career progression. Australian Network on Disability is conducting the pilot in partnership with the Business Council of Australia (BCA). Four BCA members are participating in the 18-month program: Coles Group, Compass Group Australia, Kmart & Target Australia and Woolworths Group. Australian Network on Disability will support these organisations to progress the careers of employees with disability out of entry level roles and into leadership positions. A key goal is to have sustainable systems and processes in place to ensure that people with disability have the same opportunities for job fulfilment and career progression as people without disability. This initiative is a prime example of our "Cultivating Talent" impact statement which demonstrates that by embracing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE I), organisations unlock workforce potential, attract diverse talent, and foster innovation. Although more than half (51%) of companies that completed the 2023 Disability Equality Index® indicated having employees with significant #Disabilities who use #SupportedEmployment, there’s still an opportunity to help increase understanding and adoption of this under-utilized talent strategy.   To address this, we gathered Disability:IN Corporate Partners for a virtual webinar, Support Systems: Integrating Job Coaches and Supported Employment Into Talent Strategies. As Hon. Amanda Rishworth MP highlights, it's about educating employers on a powerful truth: people with a disability should have equal opportunity to gain employment. After working in the Disability Employment industry for over a decade, I have seen first hand the amazing individuals who access the program, and have witnessed the successes for them and the employers who hired them. Research shows these are exactly the traits people with a disability often possess in abundance. Why? Because overcoming challenges is a core part of their lives. Our topics for this month's Talent Think Tanks has been Inclusive Hiring. We have had a focus on people with a disability and neurodiversity. And I have learned so much from partnering with the Field.jobs So to see a company that is doing all we are about and winning an award at Australian HR Institute (AHRI) was terrific. Check it out here. What we need to do is not rocket science. It's about thinking where your people are and what they need to be successful. Two points from the article: ♿ “When we used to advertise jobs, it would go on the company website and Seek,” says Osgood. “They suggested that we might not be in the right places for people with disability to find us, so we signed up with Dylan Alcott’s ‘The Field’, which is Seek for people with disability. ♿ “There were processes or steps in the recruitment process that were adapted as required, while still maintaining the qualities of the candidate and that they met the need that we had,” says Osgood. “If someone hadn’t had a job for ten years because of a disability, that might have counted against them in a normal recruitment process, but it didn’t when it came to this.” #inclusionmatters #diversityhiring #talentacquisition We have a couple of spots in the Brisbane event tomorrow and in Perth on 7 Sept.
