INNOTRANS: The global rail market is worth approximately €180bn per annum. But surely the only place to see the industry come together in one place is at InnoTrans, the world’s largest transport technology trade fair. And by any measure, InnoTrans is vast. As at the last edition in 2022, organiser Messe Berlin expects the venue to be fully booked by the time the gates open on September 24. That means no less than 200 000 m2 of exhibition area will be available for visitors to explore — not merely the 42 halls, many of which are multi-storey, but also the famed outdoor tracks, where a parade of new rolling stock will be on display. It is ‘a show that always moves with the times’, with this year’s focus being on electrification, digitalisation and sustainability. It is hosting a display dedicated to AI for the first time. No other mobility trade show gathers so many decision-makers, movers and visionaries, where they can exchange ideas, negotiate business and finalise investments.

Many of you would have started seeing posts about the upcoming InnoTrans in Berlin from Tue, 24 Sept 2024 – Fri, 27 Sept 2024 and rightly so since it is the biggest rail exhibition event in the world but what about the history of this event? Let’s do a quick recap! Origins (1996) InnoTrans was first held in 1996. It was launched as a specialised trade fair to bring together professionals from the transport technology sector. The primary focus was on rail transport, though it also covered other transportation technologies. The event was designed to showcase the latest innovations in transport technology, from rail vehicle manufacturing to signalling systems. Growth and Expansion (2000s) Throughout the 2000s, InnoTrans grew in size and scope. The event gained international recognition and started attracting participants from all over the world. New sectors like tunnel construction, passenger services, and public transportation were incorporated into the event. By this time, InnoTrans became a significant platform for industry experts, policymakers, and investors to exchange ideas and foster business partnerships. The turning point (2010) For the 2010 fair, organiser Messe Berlin Ltd announced an increase to 2,000 exhibitors from 44 countries, which covered the whole area of the exhibition centre for the first time. From there onwards, exhibitors showcased cutting-edge technologies like high-speed trains, autonomous systems, and energy-efficient rail solutions. The event began to serve as a global hub for transportation innovations, with delegations from various countries attending to discuss future trends in mobility. Modern Era (2020s) The COVID-19 pandemic affected the global events industry, and InnoTrans was no exception. The 2020 edition was postponed to 2022, where it returned with a focus on topics such as digitalisation, environmental sustainability, and the future of mobility. The event remains to date the largest and most influential railway trade fair in the world, shaping the future of transport technologies. Come and meet us at Hall A – Stand 835! #innotrans #engineering #technology #railways

🚆 Berlin, Berlin… Is this really my 11th InnoTrans 😮? Believe it or not: it is! I was getting there in the year 2000 for the first time and now I will be back again next week. What are the take aways from such a long journey? 🔎 Couriosity: I never expected myself being interested in rail 🚃 at all. Today I know it is a very interesting industry and has so much more to offer when looking behind the scenes. 🏃♀️ Consistency: Being involved in a topic for so many years brings many benefits - for example to understand the bigger picture of the industry, knowing the major players and building up a strong network over time. 💡 Innovation: We brought digital innovations to the fair from day one and evolved many different possibilities over the years - always to the benefit of our customers. 🙌 Relations: Longterm relationships are priceless as they are the basis for a real trustworthy cooperation and finally a great result. 🌟 Fun: Thinking of all the memories and experiences we had with so many different people from all over the world - the week in Berlin was always something special and despite the hard work a lot of fun! I really hope to meet many rail-ies again. Ping me if you are around! Rachele Moroni and Lynne Shacklock, I stumbled upon this photo today - we haven't changed at all 😉

Excited for InnoTrans 2024! 🚄🌍 Next week, I'll be heading to InnoTrans by train from Linköping to Berlin – a fitting way to travel to one of the world's largest transport technology events. For me, this journey is not just about getting from point A to B; it's about experiencing the future of mobility first-hand, and what better way to do so than by embracing sustainable travel? During the event, I'll be focusing on key topics like #AI in transport, and The future of mobility – two areas that hold massive potential to transform how we travel and how transport systems operate globally. If you're also taking the train to Berlin or back, feel free to reach out! Maybe we could have a chat over a beer in the Bistro on the train while travelling? :-) I'd love to connect with fellow participants and exchange thoughts on the challenges and opportunities facing our industry. Whether it's AI-powered solutions, multimodal travel, or the latest trends in mobility, there’s so much to explore together. Let's make the most of this shared journey! 🌐 Feel free to DM me or comment below if you'd like to connect during the trip or at the event. See you on the train or at InnoTrans! #Innotrans2024 #Futureofmobility #Publictransport #Sustainabletravel

Pan-European meeting places for sustainability - from Heilbronn to the world 🚀🌍 Frankfurt – the city of banks, skyscrapers, apple wine, and one of Europe's largest automotive trade fairs: the “Automechanika.” And Heilbronn? That is the city of KI, IPAI, industry, and Käthchen. For several years now, it has also been home to the TUM Campus Heilbronn. And it is precisely here that initiatives are created that have an impact far beyond the region. Teresa Schick, Management Consultant and freelancer employee Matthias Braun, presented the Heilbronn vision of Erasmus Cafés for Europe and sustainability at the Automechanika trade fair: Meeting centers that network young talents across Europe. 💡☕ “With the Erasmus Cafés, we are setting an example of tolerance and openness,” explained Teresa Schick to the audience on the ‘Ambition’ stage in exhibition hall 3. The project's aim, supported by ‘Die TUM Campus Heilbronn gGmbH,’ is to establish a Europe-wide network of meeting centers where young innovative talents can exchange ideas because: ”Good ideas are born in cafés.” The starting signal for the first Erasmus Café was given in the Portuguese cultural metropolis of Braga. There is a cool atmosphere there, says Schick. Further projects are already in the pipeline: “We will also provide support in promising places like Pristina in Kosovo, where the infrastructure is not yet in place.” Further cafés are planned to be opened in Austria, Switzerland, and Turkey. The overarching values for the Europe-wide meeting places are the SDG sustainability goals of the United Nations. One of many fitting for Germany's largest automotive trade fair is the topic “Future of Mobility”. 🚗 The ambassador of the TUM Campus Heilbronn sums it up: “We bring the ideas on the road – from Heilbronn to the world.” Matthias Braun also emphasizes the importance of sustainability and gives an example: “In Öhringen and Künzelsau, there is an initiative called ‘Every drop counts’, in which cooking oil residues are collected and processed into biofuels.” The Erasmus Cafés also offer space for doers – here, scientific excellence meets civil society relevance, emphasizes Braun. One thing is certain for him: “With the power from Heilbronn and active supporters, we are making progress.” 🌍💪 #TUMCampusHeilbronn #Heilbronn #Sustainability #Innovation #ErasmusCafés #FutureOfMobility
