We signed a Memorandum of Understanding with SoftBank for joint research in AI-RAN and 6G technology. Building on our Cloud RAN platform, Nokia and SoftBank will develop AI-RAN that has the potential to enhance efficiencies and generate new AI-driven revenue opportunities. We also plan to conduct field testing using the centimeter wave spectrum, which is expected to be the frequency range for 6G. This joint collaboration leverages SoftBank's extensive experience and Nokia's global technology leadership to explore how the integration of AI and RAN can open up innovative business models and how 6G can further contribute to the digitalization of society and industrial automation. According to the Wall Street Journal, the global power usage for AI systems could ratchet up to 15 gigawatts of continuous demand, equivalent to the annual power consumption of the Netherlands or about the electricity consumption of 14 million households. Similarly, according to Scientific American, AI capacity is expected to reach 1.5 million servers by 2027. These servers would consume at least 85.4 TW of electricity running at full capacity. #NVIDIA declared yesterday that AI has reached a tipping point. It is time for us in the industry to consider innovations to address power consumption.
