The main goal of the Access to Medicine Foundation is to influence companies to act on expanding access to the key healthcare products they produce. That includes working in partnership with other stakeholders to solve systemic problems that prevent equitable access. How will the pharma industry cope with the changes brought on by the IRA Act? With the 2022 enactment of the Inflation Reduction Act, the US Congress seeks to lower #healthcare costs, among other aims. For the first time in US history, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services will negotiate drug prices with manufacturers, leading to reduced costs for high-spend drugs in the program. In addition, manufacturers will have to pay rebates for Medicare Part B and Part D drugs if the prices rise above the #inflation rate, resulting in cost limitation of prescription drugs. Lastly, Medicare Part D will be completely revised, shifting the financial burden from the beneficiaries to the health plans and manufacturers. The Act will have a cascading effect on the entire healthcare ecosystem. This will affect drug discovery investments, reshape venture capital funds, and even alter the commercial sector's landscape of drug negotiations and pricing. The future of biosimilars, rare orphan disease drugs, and investment strategies will also be influenced, making it crucial to stay informed and adaptable.
