Meet Gretchen Raynak, Coforma’s newest Senior Product Designer! Hailing from the Pacific Northwest, Gretchen’s professional journey in UX and visual design began in Portland’s outdoor recreation industry, reflecting her deep love of nature. As her career evolved, she moved toward social impact and civic tech, partnering with nonprofits, education, behavioral health, and government agencies to meet critical design needs. Gretchen is excited to join our growing product design team. “Coforma’s human-centered approach to design and focus on strong partnerships really resonated with me,” she shares. “I look forward to contributing to improving access to digital services and leveling the playing field for people benefitting from them.” In her indoor free time, Gretchen enjoys reading and cooking. Outside, she continues to draw inspiration from the mountain air in Bend, OR, where you can find her running and mountain biking on the trails. It's with a mix of sorrow and a raised eyebrow that we bid farewell to InVision, a once-pioneering force in the digital design realm. As you close your doors, we can't help but reflect – with a tinge of irony – on the twists and turns of the tech world. Invision, you showed us all how to start a revolution... and then seemingly decided to sit back and watch it pass by. As the digital design industry leapt forward, embracing new trends and technologies, you seemed more content to reminisce about the good old days rather than create new ones. Your journey has been a fascinating lesson in the importance of continuous innovation. You've become a cautionary tale that even the brightest stars must keep moving or risk fading away. It's almost poetic, in a #SiliconValley, #TechSavvy sort of way. As you transition to whatever comes next, remember this: staying still is the fastest way of moving backwards in a rapidly changing world. We'll miss your once-cutting-edge platform, but we're also excited to see what lessons you'll take into your next chapter – if there is one. So, here's to Invision – may your story be a reminder to us all that in the tech world, you either innovate or become a well-designed, user-friendly footnote in digital history. With a wink and a nod,

I had an awesome time speaking at UX Crunch "Designing Beyond Accessibility" by Iconic Agency (Previously Tech Circus) at Fora last week. Exceptional organisers (thank you Myles McMorrow and Luke Reed), welcoming venue and staff, and a brilliant #community. What I took away: 🦺 Designers and researchers would like to know about the techniques to take care of themselves when moderating sensitive research (safeguarding) 🧑💻 People are interested in learning about moderating research with participants with vision and hearing loss, remotely 🫶 There are a lot of ways to ensure we design with care, and don’t unknowingly expose people to triggering experiences (wealth of examples by Erika Menczigar, a solid presentation from Afreen Saulat) 💡 1 in 4 people will be 60 by 2025, and we are nowhere near designing for nearly 2 billion people(mind-blowing stat and great work from Stacey M.) 🧑🤝🧑 It’s key to think about the decision-makers and engage core stakeholders in our process, demonstrating tangible impact your research makes (very informative tips on planning inclusive research from Marianthi Vezertzi) 🚀 Drop us a line at Cosmic Velocity if you’d like to make sure your products and services serve a broader and more diverse audience ❤️ Lovely photo credit Aneta Zokaite #design #research #InclusiveResearch #ServiceDesign #Events #Community #Collaboration

Today, I received an email that took me down memory lane. InVision will discontinue its services by the end of 2024. This news brought back a flood of nostalgic memories from my design journey. I still recall the first time I gave a demo to my leadership team, showing them how our final design would behave using InVision. The amazement in their eyes as static screens transformed into clickable, interactive prototypes that mimicked the real experience was like stepping into the future. However, the tech world is constantly evolving, and despite its groundbreaking contributions, InVision struggled to keep pace with new technologies and competitors. This situation isn't unique to InVision; it's a recurring theme in the technology sector. Adaptation is the key to survival, and failure to do so can lead to obsolescence. As designers, this serves as a critical reminder. The tech industry is dynamic and unpredictable, where rapid evolution and sudden shifts are common. Staying ahead requires continuously honing our skills, embracing new tools, and staying attuned to market trends. Success lies in agility and lifelong learning. Thank you, InVision, for your invaluable contributions to the design world. You've significantly eased our design journeys. #InVision #UXDesign #DesignJourney #Adaptation #LifelongLearning

Leveling up our game: Why a soccer table in the office means more than just playtime. 🏓💼 At our office, it's not just about desks and computers – we've got a soccer table too. And trust us, there's method to the madness! While some might see it as mere fun, we believe it's a game-changer in more ways than one. One thing I'm really excited about for 2024 is the amazing lineup of free UX and product design-related events that Rosenfeld is hosting. We've been doing this for years, but have really stepped it up of late, and are producing 2-3 free events weekly. If you want to keep up with these, best way is to subscribe to our truly useful you-won't-want-to-miss-it bi-weekly newsletter, the Rosenfeld Report (another thing I'm excited about!). That said, we've got so much happening that I'll just share out this week's three events here so you can get registered and add them to your calendar (and please tag anyone who'd be interested in joining us below): ==> Wednesday, March 13, 12-1pm ET: Climate Design Product Showcase, with Marissa Cui of Frontier, Station A's Manos Saratsis, and Stripe's Rachel H.; moderated by Michael Leggett. Learn about the impact user experience designers can have on products tackling climate change. https://lnkd.in/epMnMpaS ==> Thursday, March 14, 11am-12pm ET: Whole Product Thinking: Expanding beyond problem and solution space thinking with Sean McKay. He'll introduce us to a new way to structure conversations and align teams around the fundamental concepts needed to deliver human-centered products. https://lnkd.in/eK6i72Je ==> Friday, March 15, 11am-12pm ET: Three Years Out: Perspectives on the Near-Term Future of User Research (sponsored by Fable). I'll moderate a discussion about what's coming up soonish for #UXresearch folks with panelists Samuel Proulx of Fable and Paypal's Milan Mijatovic. https://lnkd.in/eFx7H2Cu Check out our community page for more info on these and future free Rosenfeld community events: https://lnkd.in/e5bmFriN

Reflecting on 25 years in the design, I've come to appreciate the enduring principles that guide our work. While much has evolved, the core essence of design as a problem-solving force remains unchanged. Here's a glimpse into my perspective on design's role in fostering collaboration, innovation, and crafting meaningful user experiences.

Crafting Bon. | Helping designers through fresh perspectives on UX, Human psychology, and The Art of Design.
🎨 Let's Talk Heart in Design Have you ever stopped to think about why some designs "feel" right? The secret isn't just about pretty colors or sleek looks. It's about understanding. It's about feeling what others feel. That's called empathy. In our next few slides, we'll chat about why empathy is like a friend who helps us design better. It's that voice reminding us to think about the person at the other end, using what we create. In the forthcoming slides, we'll unpack empathy's integral role in design, from its very definition to its application in world-renowned platforms like Airbnb. Along the journey, we'll also identify some common pitfalls and share tips to effectively harness empathy in our endeavors. So, if you like stories about design and people, come along! P.S. I'd love to hear your insights, experiences, and stories about empathy. Let's foster a community where we learn, grow, and design with heart. This is Part 4 of the Mastering UXD series, check out my profile to view previous parts❤️ #designcommunity #empathy #empathyindesign #designforall #uxdesign
