G is for Gluten Ataxia Gluten Ataxia is one of several neurological manifestations of coeliac disease. It can occur even if no gut damage is present. This condition is caused by damage to the brain, leading to difficulties with coordination, clumsiness, and issues with balance, which may cause falls, slurred speech, and even jumpy vision. The best treatment is a strict gluten free diet, but the success of the treatment often depends on how early it's started. Prompt diagnosis and treatment can lead to improvement or stabilisation of symptoms.
