To what extent does your ecological identity contribute to your overall self-concept? That is, how much of "who you are" is linked to the ecological systems all around you? Huge thanks to the Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden for having me out this week to talk about this topic. So neat to hear how volunteers, zookeepers, and informal educators could integrate research on transformative learning experiences into their work. #conservation #EcoID #transformativeexperience #transformativelearning

My main message at ChangeNOW2024: Let’s stop polarising ecology as if it was something that only one team can win. More than ever, we must focus on what unites us, not on what divides us. Let's put our ego aside and work together. We need to form the #AvengersOfSustainability. Watch the full talk here: https://lnkd.in/eXFkb2PQ.

I'm excited to announce the launch of my third episode for my independent web series, Teaching Climate Together, with Suzanne Pierre from Critical Ecology Lab on discussing power structures in science and paving an ecological future with liberation. We shot this episode back in October 2023, and as an independent creator, creating environmental media is my art form of how I envision the world. I am proud of my team and myself for embarking on this trip to continue being an independent creative who wants to do storytelling outside the dominant environmental movement. Critical Ecology Lab is an independent research lab based in Oakland, CA. Dr. Suzanne Pierre's lab focuses on relating ecological processes and the forces that have influenced them to human equality and liberation. How do our ecological investigations intersect with social and cultural frameworks? How could invisible and unjust systems relate to environmental crises? These are the types of questions asked in the lab. In this episode, you’ll hear from the team that makes CEL’s work possible. What does this work represent for the environmental justice movement? How does CEL bring this inquiry from theory to practice? What changes does the world need but not yet have? What do you think of critical ecology? Have you made the connection between critical race theory and ecological research? What did this make you think of? Watch the full episode below. https://lnkd.in/gmhrjKXg #science #genz #climatechange

Rewilder. Founder of Devon Wildland… Owner of Nature’s Ear 🦻🏻and Three Hares Carriage 🚂… Part-time PhD researcher- Disability and Social Inclusion in Urban Nature…
Lovely article here featuring the work of Dr Sally Hawkins: “Rewilding is not about replicating the methods used elsewhere, it responds to the context in a given area, including values, ecological conditions, land uses, policies, etc, to achieve the goals of coexistence. In that way it balances pragmatism and transformation, which are often thought to be in opposition with each other.” https://lnkd.in/em5FPcRX

Would you like to be inspired and uplifted by watching something engaging, positive, hopeful, and educational this holiday season? Wild Hope -- a new documentary series -- rewrites the current narrative surrounding biodiversity by recognizing the good work being done to promote biodiversity locally. It “reveals how local action can spark powerful change and highlights intrepid changemakers – farmers, fishers, students, teachers, citizen volunteers, and scientists – working to restore and protect biodiversity,” says the Shorty Awards. Wild Hope reports on successful conservation stories often swept aside by mainstream media in favor of more shocking, reactionary pieces. In doing so, the documentary series reminds people of the power they hold to change things for the better in their own lives and communities. Most crucially, it seeks to “inspire further action and build a movement -- a community of supporters and active participants who seek ways to improve biodiversity in their own regions.” We hope it will encourage you to help make a difference. https://lnkd.in/g8amiyXE By Alliance Intern Kaitlyn Scanlon, Oregon State University ‘26 #whattowatch #allianceforsustainability #SHEKindness #wildhopetv #WildHope #documentary #citizenscience #ecuador #javierrobayo #pbs #PBSNature #Rewilding #rewild #ProtectNature #NatureConservation #changemakers #doomism #NativeSpecies #RestoringNature #BiodiversityMatters #SeaTurtleConservancy #SeaTurtleAmbassador #TakeActionForNature #communityscientist #KeystoneSpecies #EcosystemEngineers

Helping horses & humans holistically / The Healing Circle / Wilding for Horses - Rewilding Britain Network / European Atlantic North Sea Coastal BioRegion / Holistic biology teacher / Children's author.
There are many factors involved in the success of rewilding projects. As these projects multiply, it is clearly helpful to look at elements of best practice, and comparison from different projects in different areas, and different projects in similar areas. Many fascinating references in the article cited. My thanks to Katy Barrett for reposting this.
Executive Director at African Conservation Foundation, Rewilding Academy, GEF-CSO Network Regional Focal Point Europe
In an effort to unravel the intricacies of #rewilding success, a new global study has delved into the often-overlooked sociopolitical dimensions of these projects. Examining 120 rewilding case studies from the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) “Global Re-introduction Perspectives,” researchers incorporated sociopolitical factors, guiding principles, success metrics, and threats to assess the multifaceted nature of #ecosystemrestoration project outcomes. https://lnkd.in/dUsgRcvU #BigIdeas2024 #generationrestoration
