**Team Appreciation Post** Sunday morning laid in the sun after being away for the last 2 weeks reflecting and preparing to get back into work mode. For the first time in 16 years I have done nothing to do with Northern Accountants (forwarded a few emails once a day while say waiting to go out for Dinner but that is about it) Historically the laptop would be open all the time, I’d be distracted from relaxing with wondering what was going on. Answering questions. Asking questions. Being frustrated. Most business owners can relate. Not this year. I’ve not been so relaxed or present since my pre Northern Accountants Ltd days. This is 💯 down to the #seniorteam we have in place. We can support one and other, cover for one and other, function without one and other meaning we can all have the downtime we need as and when we need it. Huge credit to Ben Muncaster for driving this #culture throughout the business and building a fantastic #team, driving fantastic #systems, to deliver fantastic things. By bringing together Ricky Field Mark Alderson Sophie Hill and Jayne Waugh means the #business runs on its own without the reliance of me or any of the individuals within the team. Now of course that isn’t possible without excellent #people to support us so thank you to them as well Sally Claxton FCCA Sam Hewitt Lauren C. "You literally saved my company." These were the exact words from my client, Trista.  She said this to me in person with happy tears in her eyes and of course, I shared in those tears of joy. Everything seemed great for the 6 year old company -  ↳ Staying busy ↳ Great customer feedback  ↳ Expanding their product line ↳ Working with big time clients In reality, they were losing tens of thousands of dollars and great employees. She didn't have the time to lead because she was too busy managing. There were no systems in place for sustainable growth. Instead of running from the truth, we began building a better future by: → Identifying 3 high level goals → Deconstructing each goal to tactical  → Setting up SOPs and process documentation → Incorporating automation outsourced accounting So just like the fireworks going off in celebration of the 4th of July holiday... We celebrated her company hitting 6 figures in 8 months of working together. 

One Year at CJ CPAs: A Journey of Resilience and Growth Reflecting on my first year at CJ CPAs, I'm overwhelmed with gratitude and pride. It's been a year marked by significant highs and incredible lows, a true testament to the resilience of our team and the unwavering support of our clients. The early days were challenging, especially in terms of staffing. A few months in, we faced a critical moment: an employee resigned, another part-timer planned to leave, and two potential hires turned down offers—all within a single week. It felt like a low point, with staffing issues clouding our otherwise clear path forward. I contemplated whether to lower our standards or hold onto our values even tighter. The answer became clear: we would not compromise on excellence. We were determined to work harder, be better, and make a significant impact. The universe seemed to respond to this resolve. After a heart-to-heart with a friend about the challenges, I received a serendipitous text asking, "are you hiring???" In less than a week, we welcomed an incredible new member to our team. Within a month, we had filled three crucial positions with fantastic individuals, each bringing a spirit of positivity and rapid growth. This year has taught me the power of resilience, the importance of maintaining standards, and the undeniable impact of moving with love and gratitude. As CJ CPAs celebrates one year, we're like a freight train rolling downhill—unstoppable in our mission to make a significant impact on the world. Here's to many more years of success, learning, and growth. Started working at Newedge finance exactly a year ago.In that one year I have laughed, been excited, learnt, questioned myself and grown. I am definitely so proud of who I have become.From working with customer experience :Quality assurance(auditing calls and social media interactions ), contact centre(making calls myself and answering customers first hand), to Projects , then to working with strategy and innovation (starting a branch from the scratch, organizing events and telling people first hand who we are as well as managing several projects). Working with diverse teams has helped me hone some of my skills and pick up new ones.Here are ten lessons I have learnt on this job that I would love to share:-Customers are king: They are the reason we do what we do and their needs and satisfaction is to be prioritized-Ask questions: Being inquisitive will do you a lot of good, it makes it easier for one to discharge their duties effectively-Never think of yourself as too small: You are enough and there is a reason you are currently where you are, so never think less of yourself-Continue to learn and develop yourself :The world is ever changing, read that book, take that course, and learn from your colleagues-Hold yourself accountable but never beat yourself up: You should take responsibility for your actions but while at that never dwell on your mistakes-The numbers matter: Use numbers to track your progress at work and to know where you are defaulting so you fix up-Always know when it is time to rest and recharge: You need to find balance and take regular breaks to avoid burnout-Be kind: Always ensure you leave people better than you met them and be empathetic.-Do your duties diligently: Always strive to do your duties diligently and respect everyone while at it-Collaborate: Team work makes the dream work, never isolate yourself from othersI am extremely grateful for my bosses Khafil Animashaun Daphne Akatugba who have given me an avenue to discover more about myself while working on several projects. My incredible managers at work whose leading and directions have made work easy, my incredible colleagues Felicia Alamu Adedolapo Aderoju and so many others for being the best colleagues one could ask for.Indeed this has been a journey, one of several highs and lows.Let’s see what the second year holds!🚀

👋 Let me share a little anecdote that might just change the way you view your career journey. It’s April 15th and like always, I’ve waited til the last minute to file my taxes (luckily our accountant is a saint 😂) So all weekend I’ve been knee-deep in a sea of crumpled receipts, trying to make sense of the chaos. Sound familiar? As I sifted through those mundane scraps of paper, something clicked – a revelation so profound, it made me rethink everything. And it got me thinking – how often do we overlook the You see, those receipts weren't just about expenses; they were a symbol of my journey over the past year – the investments I’d made, the contributions that I’d made, the gifts I’d given, etc. Each receipt represented a choice, a decision I’d made. However, because I have no system, I am 1000% sure I’ve lost some receipts. There are going to be deductions I can’t make because I don’t have “the receipts”. How often are we losing our professional “receipts”? How many times are you downplaying the significance of the role you played in a project? How many times have you delegitimated an experience because it was unpaid or “not for work”? How many times are you forgetting what you accomplished in your role because it was easy? How many times have you said, “I just..”? How many times have you said, “it’s no big deal”? Many of you are missing opportunities because you fail to recognize their true dopeness and value? You’ve forgotten your receipts. So here's the challenge: Take a moment to reflect on your own "receipts" – those pivotal moments, decisions, accomplishments, and investments that you’ve achieved throughout your life. Create your own brag sheet. Talk all your junk. There’s nothing too small. If the team did it, you did it, especially if you were the leader. Get back in touch with powerful person that you are. I've seen many accountants lose their jobs for different reasons. It's always challenging, whether due to performance, fit, or layoffs. I know it's hard to be let go, especially when you feel it was unjustified. But everyone I've seen go through this has found their way back. Some have even done better than before, finding that losing their job freed them to achieve more. At first, losing a job is a shock. Losing your primary income is hard, and adjusting takes some time. But eventually, people move on. They rethink what they want from their careers and lives: • Some find a better job. • Some go back to school. • Some start their own businesses. • Some discover new things they love to do. • Some take a break to spend more time with their families.
