Today was one of my non-work days. I spent most of it with my two boys (ages 3 and 1). We played hide-and-seek, we completed the same digger puzzle too many times to count, we made playdough and we danced to “I Like to Move it” on repeat (after seeing Madagascar the Musical last week). It was a fairly typical, but great, day.
Yes, I had a few well-timed work calls but for me a non-work day doesn’t mean I don’t think about work or that I’m not available for my team / clients. Working small amounts, when needed, on my days off is something I choose to do and helps me achieve balance.
Part-time work will, and should, look different for everyone. It’s great to see it becoming more commonplace – not just for women, not just for parents, but for everyone.
I’m delighted to have been named on the NZ Part Time Power List 2024, alongside two of my amazing colleagues Quynh Vallance (who I job share with) and Emma Thompson. The Part Time Power List is a list created by Emma Mclean that shines a light on individuals and employers that are thinking differently about creating meaningful part time roles. It’s about celebrating jobs enabling you to build your career, not side-step it, when you need a part time role. The more we see it, the more we can be it.
A huge thanks to all of those who support and embrace part-time working, and in particular the wider team at PwC New Zealand for being forward thinking in enabling and respecting this kind of flexibility.
