Is there anything more frustrating than spending hours/days/months getting an amazing earned media hit, feeling like you climbed Mount Everest and then not having an answer when your CEO asks if anyone who matters actually saw or read the article? I think not! I’ve written a piece about the “then what” - the tools available to you once you’ve generated a great media article, thought leadership piece, recognition, etc. to make sure the right people actually see it and you can report back to your business accordingly.

There's never been a more crowded information environment for a business to operate in. In a world where a good news story or TV hit no longer guarantees visibility with or attention from a business' most critical stakeholders, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer and CCOs are increasingly under pressure to not only break through the clutter but also quantify the impact of their efforts. This is an excellent piece by Carrie Ponder about how C-suite corporate affairs leaders are tackling those challenges.

Host of the *virtual* Monthly Giving Summit - the ONLY event dedicated to helping nonprofits build subscriptions for good! Join me 9/5-9/6 and RSVP for FREE.
So I did a thing... I joined a board!! But not just any board...this one ⬇️ The Impact Communications Institute (ICI). Stories can shape behavior, so how do we ensure they're told through an impact lens? And what does that mean? In 2019, I was speaking in Vancouver at the Dress for Success International Conference and met up with a friend of mine and the Founder of Yulu Public Relations, Melissa Orozco // Social Impact PR. As she poured us a glass of red, we sat down on her couch and she said, "I have to show you something." On her TV, she pulled up a presentation explaining the beginnings of ICI. Immediately I saw the importance and need. When I was in college and navigating my career in communications, no class or even a seminar existed on "Impact Communications." Now "impact" has become a buzzword but what does it mean in practice? ICI is a nonprofit organization created to legitimize, govern, educate, and scale the practice of Impact Communications. When Melissa and I reconnected recently, she shared all the updates on ICI and I knew I wanted to get involved! I'm so honored to sit alongside and learn from incredible fellow board members who have been so welcoming - Tessa Danelesko, Jennifer Shapiro, Michael Kaye 🎗️, DJ Koessler, Abenaa (Abby) Hayes (she/her/hers), Adam Lake, Brad MacAfee, Brandon Wilson, APR, Fellow PRSA, & Jenna Kuchinsky, just to name a few! If you're interested in learning what we're all about, please join a live workshop on "How to Craft an Impact Communications Game Plan" *tomorrow* on May 15. (It will be recorded!) We’ll be diving in using a real-life case study: Lauren Coape-Arnold, Executive Director of the Apollo Opportunity Foundation (AOF), will share the communications challenges and opportunities facing the AOF and invite you to join in a live, collaborative discussion about: ➡️ What to avoid when seeking to stand up new internal initiatives within our organizations ➡️ Lessons you’ve learned from taking bold action at your company ➡️ Best practices for Impact Communications RSVP: https://lnkd.in/eSqHn8hY

R A’s Vice President Josh Balber reflects on why communications and marketing leads should be at the table when important strategic decisions are being made at an organization: “All too often, communications and marketing teams have been called in to implement a plan rather than be a part of its development, whether in selling a season, filling a house, driving engagement, or responding to comment on social media. Communications teams are on the frontlines, articulating mission and programming, and are the ones hearing from the public, whether ticket buyers, social media posters, volunteers, media, and many other audiences. It’s imperative to have a communications professional’s voice as part of the planning, to bridge the internal vision with external response.” Read more on why communications should have a seat at the executive table from the Communications Council at Forbes:
