According to Wood Mackenzie Power & Renewables and the Coalition for Community Solar Access, the cumulative capacity of community solar in the US is set to soar to 14GW by 2028. While recent years saw a dip in annual installations due to supply chain uncertainties and other challenges, a rebound is in sight starting in 2024. Factors like New York, Illinois, and other state programs, as well as proposed initiatives in California, are primed to drive this resurgence. With the potential of federal grants and support from the Solar for All fund, the growth of community solar is poised to make a significant impact, providing sustainable energy solutions while benefiting low-income communities. https://lnkd.in/gpbJgi_D #solarenergy #energy #IP #VC #patents #renewableenergy #DeepTech

🌎 Big news for #EarthDay 🌎 We are thrilled to announce that the EPA has selected the Community Power Coalition “Powering America Together” Program as a recipient of $249.3 million under the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund’s Solar for All competition! This program, spanning 44 states and territories and all 10 EPA regions, will deliver meaningful benefits for Americans in low-income and disadvantaged communities through community solar projects that reduce energy burdens and promote quality jobs, community wealth-building, community energy resilience, and equitable workforce development. We thank the Biden-Harris Administration and EPA for selecting our program. IPC leads the Community Power Coalition, which brings together market experts and community solar leaders to expand mission-driven community-based solar across the country. Coalition members include Black Owners of Solar Services, Clean Energy Group, Coalition for Community Solar Access, Community Housing Capital, Inc., GRID Alternatives , Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC), People's Solar Energy Fund, ROC USA, and The Center for Impact Finance at the UNH Carsey School of Public Policy. As part of the application process, the Coalition received support letters from 80 organizations! This program will focus innovation and scaling on community solar models that provide multiple meaningful benefits: Community-owned models seeking to build wealth for low-income and disadvantaged communities Affordable multifamily housing models benefitting low-income tenants in regions without enabling community solar policy Resident-owned-community models for solar in cooperatively owned manufactured home developments Models aligned to the requirements of rural regions, generating additional wealth for rural landowners and rural electric cooperative ownership Community solar models that integrate storage and resiliency Models that integrate developers and equitable workforce development The Powering America Together program’s design includes a full range of financial assistance, technical assistance, capacity building, workforce development supports, culturally appropriate community engagement, and a dedicated focus on training and supporting community solar developers from under-represented backgrounds. The program's enduring legacy will be the cultivation of an ever-growing network of mission-driven developers who advance climate equity through community solar, driving positive transformations in communities disproportionately affected by climate challenges. The Nature Conservancy in Colorado is pleased to be one of 19 multi-sector coalition partners supporting the recently introduced ‘Inclusive Community Solar,’ bill. Updating and expanding Colorado’s Community Solar Program will enable more solar energy to be developed on existing surfaces like parking lots, rooftops, and previously disturbed areas, which can help conserve high-value natural and working lands. Further, this bill is a step forward in ensuring that all Coloradans can access the benefits of our transition to affordable, abundant clean energy. Big thanks to Sen. Steve Fenberg for introducing this important legislation and to Duncan Gilchrist for leading TNC’s engagement! -- Note: If you have a moment, take a look at the breadth and diversity of coalition partners championing this bill. In my humble opinion, this is representative of what a partnership that can generate durable, equitable and actionable outcomes can look like - and is an exciting aspect of this initiative 🙌. #communtysolar #ira #energyaccess #dualuse #brownfields #brightfields #agrivoltaics #lmi #renewables #cleanenergy #partnership #policy
