Cancer is a WORD, not a sentence. This saying was shared with us by one of our patients and has helped us to reinforce our great purpose in working with these patients and their families. It's our role to help improve the day-to-day experience of those LIVING with these diagnoses. Each call, each text, each encounter allows us to stand alongside patients and their loved ones to support them along their journey. Inevitably, we all know someone who faces this word: our patients, our friends, our families, ourselves. Living each day with hope for an improved tomorrow is why days like World Cancer Day exist - to remind us the power that comes with love and support for those living with these diagnoses. Learn more about World Cancer Day, and how you can provide resources to those you know face with the WORD: https://lnkd.in/drnuZeE

WORLD CANCER DAY On World Cancer Day, AEC stands in solidarity with the global community, in the fight against cancer. This day serves as a poignant reminder that together, we can make a difference in the lives affected by this formidable disease. In alignment with the theme for World Cancer Day 2024, which focuses on "Close the Care Gap," AEC underscores its commitment to fostering a spirit of optimism and strength within our community. This theme encourages us to reflect on the progress we've made, acknowledge the challenges ahead, and renew our dedication to supporting one another in the face of adversity. Let us embrace the theme of "Close the Care Gap" as we work towards building a world where the impact of cancer is minimized, and where the strength of our collective spirit prevails. #WorldCancerDay #worldcancerday2024 #CloseTheCareGap #cancerawareness #Cancer #AEC #www.aecwb.edu.in

On World Cancer Day, a message of hope from a cancer patient: To all cancer warriors around the world: I write to you today from my journey with cancer, a journey filled with challenges and mixed emotions. But I want to share with you the flame of hope that I carry within me, a flame that illuminates the darkness of difficult days and revives my soul in the darkest times. This is a message of hope for all those who are fighting this battle. Remember that you are not alone, and that we are all in this together. We are a community of warriors, united by our strength and determination. Let us not give up hope. Let us continue to fight with courage and resilience. Let us draw strength from each other and from the many stories of victory over cancer. We may face difficult days, but we must never lose sight of the light at the end of the tunnel. We must believe in ourselves and in the power of hope. Together, we can overcome this challenge. Together, we can win this battle. We all want the future to be better for young people with cancer and their families. For this to happen, we need a solid foundation of evidence to drive meaningful change. So, together with our partners, we are asking young people who have or have had cancer, and their parents, carers and siblings to complete our survey. Many of the questions being asked have not been asked before and so we don’t know what they will tell us. We will learn from them together with all organisations who support children and young people. Jenny Turner, our Director of Strategy and Governance, has written a blog on why our cancer care survey is so important and how you can get involved. Read more here: https://bit.ly/3RK6zbC Please… use this survey to make your voice heard, and make sure you tell other people about it! https://lnkd.in/e32cr68Q

"Do you check your breasts?" This was the question most asked by our ladies when spreading awareness at Rushden Lakes! It amazes us that 38% of women in the UK DO NOT check their breasts regularly for potential signs of breast cancer. So, we are on a mission to spread awareness and encourage women to regularly check their breasts. We had our stand at L'Occitane in Rushden Lakes for breast cancer awareness month. We were very grateful that we could set up our table outside as the weather was lovely, and we spoke to so many people! A lot of people we speak to are aware they need to check their breasts, but don't know how to or what feels normal and not. This is why we love getting our boobs out and encouraging people to give them a feel (Demonstration boobs, not our own!!). These boobs are specifically made to demonstrate how people can check themselves. It shows you what to look for in terms of dimpling and what lumps and bumps can actually feel like. If you want advice on how to check yourself, visit our stall at events, or you can follow our simple guide that we post monthly on our social media (The last one was posted 9 posts ago, if you want to find it!) #BreastCancerAwareness #BreastCancer #BreastCare #CheckYourself #KnowYourself
