I love the Olympics! Cheering for your country, individual athletes, and their unique stories is always an inspiring experience. The lessons we learn are invaluable. It's incredible that in 2024, we still rely on safety pins, paper signs, and leg labels to identify the fastest athletes in the world! Maybe the lesson is there’s a protected niche safety pin business out there to buy! 🏅 #Olympics #Athletes #Inspiration 🇺🇸

Here’s a great combo of exercises for athletes and coaches looking to add a little bit of variety into their warm-up. It’s a forward lunge with an emphasis on a long stride for hip mobility. The overhead throw is a nice way to warm up the upper body and also sneak and some anti-extension for the trunk. The isometric hold at the bottom focuses on strength and control in a deeper range of motion. The last piece of the lunge is when you focus on pushing through your front leg back to the standing position. This requires significant of concentric strength, control and balance. We suggest performing 2 to 3 sets of 5 to 8 reps. Fight-Ready: Are You Prepared to Drop Weight on Short Notice? 🥊 Starting fight week at an appropriate weight is paramount for the health and safety of combat sports athletes. Maintaining a manageable starting weight promotes better hydration, minimises the risk of dehydration-related health issues, and ensures fighters are more physically and mentally prepared for their bouts. While there is no single ‘ideal’ acute weight loss target, research suggests that under some conditions, a loss of 5–8% body mass may be possible, with an acceptably small impact on health and performance (Reale et al., 2016). The infographic presents a traffic light-based system for assessing your initial weight at the beginning of fight week. ✅ Send this post to an athlete. 📌 Save this post for future reference. #boxing #makingweight #cuttingweight #fightweek #scienceforathletes

Health, Safety & Environment Leadership for high-risk businesses | Experienced in Construction, Electrical Utilities, Roofing and Infrastructure
"...a safety plan and staff were in place at the time..." Deaths at various 'adventure' races (e.g. spartan, tough mudder) have happened in the past and that put more emphasis on trying to run these events under some level of manageable risk - water events were almost always the culprit. I know the standard response will be that these are voluntary events with high level athletes who are aware of the risks - but unlike triathlons were swimming is part of the sport and an expected risk for the athletes - CrossFit's games have always been an 'expect the unexpected' sort of thing. As such, they have no idea how competent swimmers will be nor will their safety folks have the experience that triathlon organizers have in dealing with water temps, wetsuit usage, turbidity, mass starts, etc. A preventable tragedy that will likely be the catalyst for much needed change. https://lnkd.in/gH6_7Akz
