Meet Limestone Calcined Clay Cement (LC3), an emerging innovation transforming the cement industry.
💡 What makes #LC3 so unique? Concrete is responsible for 8% of global carbon emissions. LC3 could reduce these emissions by 40% and prevent 500 million tons of emissions annually by 2030. That’s not all—it’s also more cost-effective.
According to ClimateWorks’ Industry Program Strategist Scott Shell, it has “huge potential to scale.” Colombian-based cement manufacturer Cementos Argos is already seeing a huge return on its investment, producing 2 million tons of cement with calcined clay since 2019.
Our partner, Karen Scrivener of the LC3 Project - Low Carbon Cement and EPFL, along with other key collaborators, are at the forefront of bringing low-carbon cement to the regions that need it most. However, philanthropy must do more to help it scale.
