🌎 I help leaders grow industry-leading organisations through high-performing, trust-driven cultures and teams.
This is an excellent article on how to get communities on board for our infrastructure needs for the energy transition.
This is a good article about community benefits for communities hosting renewable energy. “Researchers have found that once renewable energy projects are initially blocked by local opposition, only about 13 percent of them are ever completed. The fact that community members are coming to the table with specific and understandable worries about industrial-scale projects slated for construction in their agricultural, remote, front-line, or pristinely rural communities suggests that better engagement procedures may be necessary, but not sufficient. ……… ….. the question we should be asking ourselves is not how can we do a better job of convincing potential host communities that they be fine with that; but rather, how can we make them more compelling for communities to want to host them? To do that, we must build a good process to identify substantive concerns and then meaningfully address them with mitigation and compensatory benefits. That is, in fact, fundamental to rebuilding our energy systems with justice as a core value, instead of replicating the economically extractive and unjust systems we still struggle under today.”

Mayami Kingdom Proposes Innovative Approach to Renewable Energy Development in Solomon Island, Australia Solomon Island, Australia - 18th May 2024 Today, His Majesty Joe G. Mayami, the King of Mayami, demonstrated his unwavering commitment to the development and growth of Solomon Island, Australia. In a bold move aimed at revolutionizing the renewable energy sector, His Majesty proposed a groundbreaking initiative to shift the focus from individual housing renewable energy investments to community renewable energy projects. Drawing inspiration from the cultural ethos of the Mayami Kingdom, which places a strong emphasis on community welfare, His Majesty emphasized the importance of collective action in addressing the nation's energy needs. His visionary recommendation involves the establishment of community power plants within residential estates, thereby fostering self-sufficiency and sustainability on a communal level. The King's proposal comes in response to recent announcements by the Treasurer of Australia, Jim Chalmers, regarding substantial budget allocations for renewable energy initiatives aimed at achieving the Net Zero project. Recognizing the significance of this endeavor, His Majesty advocates for an innovative edge, leveraging advanced architectural modeling and cutting-edge cognitive AI technology to create smart energy solutions for smart communities. By harnessing various sources of renewable energy and implementing efficient distribution systems, His Majesty envisions a future where Solomon Island emerges as a global leader in sustainable energy practices. This transformative approach not only promises environmental benefits but also fosters economic growth, job creation, and social cohesion within the region. As the Mayami Kingdom continues to uphold its tradition of stewardship and innovation, His Majesty calls upon stakeholders, government officials, and industry leaders to join hands in realizing this visionary initiative. Together, we can build a brighter, greener future for Solomon Island and pave the way for a sustainable tomorrow. Bottom-up Community Energy Initiatives are important in reducing (degrowing) energy production and consumption, while prioritizing community and the environment over profit. Efforts are needed in awareness, education, and creating favorable legal frameworks for CEIs. Financial resources, both local and international, should support decentralized, citizen/community-led initiatives rather than large-scale private renewable energy projects that do not align with degrowth principles. It is time to prioritize community and the environment over profit in the energy sector. https://lnkd.in/d-HXCiru

Unraveling the Challenges and Potentials: A Critical Analysis of Alternative Energy in the Least Developed Countries Alternative energy sources hold immense promise for addressing energy poverty, mitigating climate change, and fostering sustainable development in the least developed countries (LDCs). However, a critical examination reveals a complex landscape fraught with challenges and opportunities. Foremost among the hurdles facing LDCs is the lack of financial resources to invest in alternative energy infrastructure. Limited access to capital inhibits the deployment of renewable energy technologies, hindering progress towards energy security and sustainability. Additionally, technological barriers and inadequate human capital pose significant obstacles to the implementation and maintenance of alternative energy systems. Without the necessary expertise and skilled workforce, LDCs struggle to harness the full potential of clean energy solutions. Political instability and weak governance further exacerbate the challenges faced by LDCs in adopting alternative energy. Uncertain regulatory environments and unreliable policy frameworks deter private sector investment, stifling the growth of renewable energy markets. Moreover, geographic factors such as remoteness and lack of infrastructure present logistical challenges for the deployment of alternative energy solutions in many LDCs, particularly in rural areas. Despite these challenges, alternative energy offers a pathway to address the pressing issue of energy access in LDCs. Off-grid solutions, such as solar home systems and mini-grids, have the potential to provide reliable electricity to communities without access to the central grid, thereby improving livelihoods and enhancing economic opportunities. Moreover, renewable energy deployment can stimulate job creation and economic growth, particularly in rural areas where employment opportunities are scarce. Furthermore, alternative energy presents LDCs with an opportunity to pursue environmentally sustainable development pathways. Unlike fossil fuels, renewable energy sources produce minimal greenhouse gas emissions and have lower environmental impacts, helping to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change. In conclusion, while the adoption of alternative energy in LDCs is beset by numerous challenges, it also holds immense potential for transformative change. By addressing financial, technological, and governance barriers, and leveraging the socioeconomic and environmental benefits of renewable energy, LDCs can chart a course towards a more sustainable and prosperous future. However, concerted efforts from governments, development partners, and the private sector are essential to unlock the full potential of alternative energy in the least developed countries.

Renewable energy specialist ★ Green entrepreneur ★ Helping developers and contractors save money on solar panels
The latest study by University of Exeter's Environmental Intelligence Centre and Friends of the Earth highlights massive untapped potential for onshore renewables projects across England. Their findings show that utilising just three percent of land for wind and solar farms could lead to a 13-fold increase in renewable energy generation, enough to power all of the households in England two and a half times over! That level of generation would put us in a position to export clean energy globally, leading the charge and positioning ourselves as a green hub. Importantly, this analysis only considers suitable land, with the study excluding sites such as National Parks. Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, heritage sites and higher-grade agricultural land, to prioritise environmental preservation. It highlights just how tangible it is to reach energy generation output of this level, we just need ambitious policy to drive it! https://lnkd.in/efhYC-4r #renewablenergy #climatechange #netzero #solarpv #solarenergy
