The Green Climate Fund (GCF), the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) and Save the Children launched an unprecedented $70 million investment to build climate-resilient schools in vulnerable countries. Building the Climate Resilience of Children and Communities through the Education Sector (BRACE) marks the first major investment of climate finance in the education sector. https://lnkd.in/ec5cuNTB

Excellent news indeed. I am assuming that, in addition to constructing climate-resilient schools, climate education will be taught in these schools in such a way that is practical and applicable for that population. The Green Climate Fund (GCF),Global Partnership for Education and Save the Children International have launched today (Building the Climate Resilience of Children and Communities through the Education Sector (#BRACE) an unprecedented US$70 million investment at COP28 to build climate-resilient schools in vulnerable countries. Green Climate Fund is proud to partner with #GPE and #SavetheChildren to support children facing the climate crisis. The proposed $70 million #BRACE #investmentFacility will help bridge an urgent investment gap and equip countries to build safer, #greener #schools while developing school curricula that empower future generations to be agents of change amid escalating climate impacts BRACE will boost climate resilience in children and communities by: ✅ Constructing climate-resilient and green schools ✅ Integrating climate change in school curricula ✅ Providing climate early warnings to schools

#BRACE looks like a great initiative, with substantial leverage. Thanks for this very interesting post, Amgad! After just having listened to Garry Aslanyan's podcast, where Annie Msosa, elaborates on the #public #health benefits of clean water (https://lnkd.in/gWzTh8w3), I would have hoped that "health in all policies" is also considered by the Green Climate Fund and Save the Children International. "Every year, climate events interrupt learning for about 40 million children" - I wonder how many do so because of ill health (either their own, or that of relatives). Certainly, "an unprecedented US$70 million investment at COP28 to build climate-resilient schools in vulnerable countries" is to be applauded! #Education alone is quite rightly a strong argument - but linking it to health (at no extra cost) and making sure of (measuring) the impact on health would make justification of the expenses that much stronger... Or is this "politics" and inter-agency cooperation at United Nations is as challenging as between competing national ministries? #publichealth, #climatechange, #climatechangemitigation #finance, #funding #fundingopportunity, #health #education, #children, #healthinallpolicies
