Last week wrapped up my 12 week fellowship as part of the Climatebase fourth cohort. My desire to join in the fight is only strengthened after taking in the curriculum, learning from researchers, companies, and meeting so many like-minded individuals on the same journey as myself. One thing is clear, all jobs can be climate jobs. As 2024 dawns, I'll be trying to navigate my potential job directions: working with direct impact companies, joining up with creative/brand agencies supporting those companies, or returning to games to be the climate advocate on the inside. There were two talks that I thought would be fun fodder for folks to check out whether you are interested in climate tech or not. 1. Of all the companies that spoke, the Project Vesta stood out for me because of it's simple elegance. This nature based solution is an example of Coast Carbon Capture (CCC). Buffer our oceans from acidification AND capture more atmospheric carbon. Hell yeah! www.vesta.earth 2. Beavers!! This one is of fun relevance because of the recent news around the first release of wild beavers in California in over 7 decades. Once again, this is nature already doing things better than human ingenuity. Check out what I mean here: https://lnkd.in/gWtMZ2TW

Up-skilling 1M people into climate | Founder | Last exit at $750M | I break down climate solutions so 5th graders understand them
I love helping people find jobs in Climate. So we did something really cool 😎 Here’s the background: A Climate Tech founder needed some help with telling their company story. Our Climate Drift member had years of marketing and communication background. We matched them both up. And explained how they need to work together to create a win-win situation. Both met multiple times over a few weeks to produce something together. Our member: → Got to see inside an early stage climate tech company. → Understand the niche at much deeper level. → Gain crucial sector specific experience. → Work directly with an A founder. The company: → Got A talent bringing in new perspectives. → A much better company story. → A natural way to find talent. Conversation for follow up projects and full time positions are happening. All without a single cover letter or resume. 👉 Structured education Real world, hands-on learning for the win! ⭐️ Can’t wait to scale up this. Let’s go 🙌 —— PS. Lots of professionals are struggling to find a job in Climate. At Climate Drift we provide training, networking opportunities, and hands-on skill-building projects to help you demonstrate your value and navigate the climate job market with confidence. Learn more on the Climate Drift website. (link in first comment).

We're hiring an Associate to join our team at Cascade Climate! This is an entry-level position for someone who is very hungry to learn and get feedback. You don’t necessarily need to have a background in Earth science or have done previous climate work. We are looking for a fast learner and well-rounded generalist: someone capable of managing complex projects independently, fast-tracking the team’s learning on new and technical topics, building new relationships and alliances, and creating form structure in a fast-shifting, sometimes ambiguous field. If this sounds like you, or if you know someone who might be a good fit, our application link is live here: https://lnkd.in/e2nUb7E9 Interested in learning more? We're also hosting an information session on May 9th, 2024, from 5:30-6:30PM ET. Get to know us and what your experience at Cascade could look like, and ask any lingering questions on your mind. This is the resource guide I wish I'd had when I started exploring climate solutions. It started as a simple list of climate career resources for myself. But with so many others hungry to learn about climate trends, technologies, markets, and companies, I realized the broader community could benefit from it. If you’re looking for newsletters, job boards, communities, explainers, solution libraries, or other learning resources, you'll find them here. It's inspiring how much innovation and progress are taking place across the ecosystem on all levels – technical, business model, commercial, financial, regulatory, and more. And the sense of shared purpose and camaraderie that permeate this community are what give me even more hope that our collective strength can overcome the challenges of the climate crisis. 💪 Please share with others so we can engage even more talent in the journey! Good advice for those looking for work in climate tech...
This one's for all my software engineer friends who may be curious about working in climate. I had a chance to host Greg Svitak at a Terra.do event earlier today, where he shared some really insightful advice and tips on the differences between working for a tech product company and working for a climate tech company. (1) You have to get used to needing physical assets to make it work. And you need to go out into the physical world to understand user problems and be motivated to solve them. (2) Look for a solid business case. Look up jobs listed on Terra.do and Climatebase job boards to see where the hiring is happening. (3) Persevere. In the IT industry, we are all used to getting jobs via traditional recruiting methods and processes. Be willing to go out of your comfort zone and network to get a job in climate. Be patient. (I needed to hear this today!) I hope this helps at least a few of you. And special thanks to Greg for the advice! #climatecareers #climatetech
