🌍 A recent WWF and Ellen MacArthur Foundation survey reveals that small businesses worldwide back a proposed UN treaty to curb plastic pollution. Despite initial challenges, such as new taxes and compliance costs, MSMEs believe in the long-term benefits, including job creation in sustainable sectors. ♻ Most MSMEs support the treaty, viewing it as a positive environmental step. Service providers in recycling and alternative materials anticipate net benefits, although financial challenges remain a concern, with calls for more support to aid the transition. 👉 Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eG7tT_ic In line with these efforts, CAFA is committed to fostering significant transformation within the association sector. 🌍On this #Earth #Day #2024 we are celebrating the importance of partnerships for sustainable development before the start of the INC-4 negotiation on binding rules to combat plastic pollution in Ottawa Canada! Inger Andersen, Executive Director of UNEP echoing the importance of #redirecting #financial #flows to contribute to the end of #plastic #pollution Mentioning in her speech the 160 financial sector signatories representing over USD 15.5 Trillion Combined Assets endorsing the Finance Statement on Plastic Pollution calling on negotiators at the Fourth Session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee #INC4 to develop an International Legally Binding Instrument on ending plastic pollution with concrete and #measurable #targets and guarantees for #transparency and #accountability. #Plastic #production keeps on adding unmanaged plastic wastes to the economic system and has also climate impacts, projected to account for 15% of greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 if no action is taken, and plastic pollution is clearly identified as an important issue in the 7th target of the Global Biodiversity Framework that has the aim of “preventing, reducing, and working towards eliminating plastic pollution”. Top 25 Women in Management Africa | Head of BD, Marketing & Comms at A&K, ALN | Circular Economy and Urban Greening Champion
This year, on #EarthDay, leaders worldwide have convened in Ottawa, Canada, for INC-4, the fourth round of discussions aimed at securing a global agreement to combat #PlasticPollution. Plastic pervades every corner of our planet, from our oceans to even within our bodies. An alarming 85% of single-use plastic finds its way into landfills or is improperly managed. It's clear that simply relying on recycling is not a viable solution. What we need is a fundamental shift that eliminates single-use and short-lived plastics, steering us towards a circular economy model. Achieving this requires a comprehensive global #PlasticsTreaty and regional approaches that addresses every stage of the plastic lifecycle. Such an agreement must safeguard nature, human health, and the climate while also fostering job creation. Encouragingly, solutions are within reach and/or require all of us to use this as an opportunity to innovate. People worldwide are clamoring for change, while businesses are innovating with alternative products and advocating for clear, global regulations. Additionally, the finance sector is mobilizing, pushing for an ambitious treaty. We stand on the cusp of a transformative moment in our relationship with plastics. Let's seize this unprecedented opportunity and not let it slip away. Hello from Ottawa! We’re here at the negotiations for the UN Treaty to End Plastic Pollution. We’re joining sessions with government delegates, industry players, scientists and civil society organisations. Our goal is to help share the finance perspective on behalf of the UN-convened Finance Leadership Group on Plastics. Ahead of the negotiations, last week 160 financial institutions – including ING – signed a statement that calls on governments to agree on an ambitious treaty that sets a clear objective to end plastic pollution, supported by binding rules and obligations to address the full lifecycle of plastic. There’s much work to do but we’ve learned a lot this week, which will also guide our next steps. Want to know more about the statement: https://urlz.fr/qq47 Here’s more about ING’s current approach to plastic: https://lnkd.in/eVrC-mew United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) #INC4 #BeatPlasticPollution #plastic

🌍 Exploring the Voluntary Carbon Market: Shaping a Sustainable Future 🌱 Today, let's dive into the fascinating realm of the voluntary carbon market, a crucial player in our collective efforts towards a greener and more sustainable future. 🌿 Understanding Voluntary Credits vs. Compliance Credits: In the world of carbon offsets, it's crucial to distinguish between voluntary and compliance credits. While compliance credits are mandated by governmental regulations, voluntary credits are chosen by organizations and individuals motivated by a genuine commitment to environmental responsibility. Opting for voluntary carbon credits allows us to go above and beyond mere compliance, actively contributing to the fight against climate change. Beyond Carbon: Exploring Environmental Credits: The scope of environmental credits extends far beyond carbon. Water and plastic credits are gaining momentum as powerful tools in the sustainability toolkit. Water credits support projects promoting efficient water use and conservation, while plastic credits aid in the removal and recycling of plastic waste. By acknowledging and investing in various environmental credits, we can address multiple facets of our ecological footprint. The Unique Role of the Voluntary Carbon Market: The voluntary carbon market stands out for its flexibility and innovation. Unlike compliance markets, it allows organizations and individuals to choose projects that align with their values and goals. This freedom fosters a diverse range of initiatives, from reforestation projects to renewable energy ventures, all contributing to emissions reductions. The voluntary market is a dynamic arena where creativity and commitment converge to drive real, positive change. Reducing Methane Emissions through Voluntary Carbon Market: One often overlooked advantage of the voluntary carbon market is its effectiveness in tackling methane emissions, particularly those arising from food waste. By supporting projects aimed at avoiding food waste, Brightly not only cuts down on harmful methane emissions but also fights food insecurity throughout the U.S This makes the voluntary carbon market a powerful ally in the global fight against climate change. Let's shift our focus to the voluntary carbon market, where choices become actions, and every credit represents a step towards a cleaner, greener planet. Together, we can make a difference. 💚🌎 #Sustainability #ClimateAction #VoluntaryCarbonMarket #EnvironmentalCredits

Brilliant to see the global Finance industry (159 financial insutitutions, in addition to Scottish Widows) come together to call on governments to agree an ambitious ILBI that sets a clear objective to end plastic pollution and that is supported by binding rules and obligations for governments to address the full life cycle of plastic. We have asked that the ILBI should also be based on a scientific approach and create a framework to align all economic actors towards its objectives.
